The best Chinese bike yet?

It's a good point.

I'm sure many Rolex owners never aspire to have a Timex.

What do you care if someone looks down their nose at what you're riding?
Exactly this..there are many old farts on here who just love to berate others people's choice in bikes. BMW, Honda, Guzi, Voge, Harley whatever......
It's your money, your choice and your ride. Get out and enjoy it and bollox to anyone who tells you different. Of course critque and discussion is fine but to say that someone else's choice is wrong or to say they have bought a crap bike to me is wrong. And besides maybe some folk are not as rich as our @Doc and a chinese bike is all they can afford to get out and enjoy. Good for them I say!.
Sorry but I cant stand people belittle others because of the choices THEY make. Its a version of pomposity and arrogance, a trait I despise in people....and gets me into ''bovver'' sometmies....
rant over....

For the weekend bimble or odd Euro tour, I'd say the value for money aspect is more and more apparent these days.

My mate started his biking a Ducati owner for a decade or so, then flipped to BMW for a lot of years, only to realise at over £20k, it's an expensive ornament for most of the year and bought a Guzzi close to half the price.

Happy as Larry, looks great and performs well.

I don't buy stuff blatant copy from Ali Express and the like, but not because the product is inferior but think they put UK businesses at risk, but not buying something being made in China these days is likely not buying it at all.

Like JLR struggling and laying people off as the Jaecoo rises in popularity.
Seriously, it could see the end of Range Rover

Chinese haters laugh, calling the Jaecoo "The Temu Range Rover"
Soon it could become the real thing, when the real thing no longer exist.

Who will be laughing then?

Not sure why anyone 'takes sides' and why anyone would be laughing at anyone else?

JLR or any large scale business who develop, manufacture and sell anything has to accept that competition will always be there and they need to invest in their products to keep them the top choice.

Lucky Lucky Rolex are not a comparison, they boil my piss and Rolex don't stress over them. They have eyes on their quality competition, not the cheap Chinese shite people buy.

If the Jaecoo, or anything else is worthy of a second look, good on them, but I do think they will sit as another option and not close down JLR.

But these threads barely offer any logic, so who am I to have a sensible opinion...

Well, you don’t now?!
Clearly learnt your lesson.
Really can’t be arsed repeating myself on a ‘flogged horse’ discussion, but the failings of Chinese bikes aren’t on their initial appearance or even riding them. It’s on the whole Chinese infrastructure. They like making stuff that’s good, but don’t ask them to fix or provide parts for. They just want you to buy another with all the money you saved on the initial purchase.
This ethos works well with white goods and TVs, but not with motorcycles!!
Next you’ll be telling me a fucking Jaecoo is as good as a Range Rover ffs!!
PS. I’m pretty sure you’d opt for early retirement if Chinese planes started showing up at Terminal 5?! 🤣🤣
Some people are just plainly challenged when it comes to using their grey matter! I fully agree with you 100%…how hard is it to see for FFS! And the very same people say, “The Chinese use the same engine, the same brakes etc etc…but these very same people can’t grasp the fact that Chinese quality standards are much much lower than Bmw’s.. For instance, Chinese licensed parts will be inspected/quality checked every one in a ten thousand parts manufactured. Bmw will inspect one in every 100 parts manufactured.
We all have our own opinion on this subject. Once again and I repeat: You can have cheap but it won’t be good, or you can have good but it won’t be cheap…
Ok, I’m poised and ready…and I’m sure thats opened the flood gates..😜

You are feeling up for a battle today, I can tell.

Lol.

Point taken Grant 👍
Trust you to be the ‘adult in the room’?! lol
Anyway and for context, I was shit-faced last night when I put my worm in the pond. Usual fish bit though.
I do try most bikes before condemning them, but I don’t particularly like Chinese stuff. Their quality control in most stuff is non existent. I recently removed some ali express bling from my used T Max and noticed the alloy was like chocolate before bouncing it in the bin!
Having said that, I usually bite my tongue in most of those threads and simply scroll past………..but where’s the fun in that?! 🤣🤣

My four penneth….

Back in 2014, I worked overseas on a major engineering project for over 5 years– The job was Project Management (oversight) of the EPC contractor (Sepco) who was and is a major Chinese Engineering contractor. It was a real world insight into Chinese quality standards (or lack off), practices, tricks and deceptions…

For example, in all my years in industry, I’d never before seen grey copper conductors installed within HV switchgear.

Working closely with the Chinese Principle Engineers (many of which were UK University Educated & Experienced) who were themselves highly critical towards their own Company by the lack of Western quality standards which they had compared to their first hand experience via their training in the West. They acknowledged that China previously lacked any credible R&D within industry and it was standard practice to copy everything from the West & Japan.

However, they all mentioned that … “We are quick learners”.

My point is….

Up until 12 months ago, I was in the buyer category of.. “I’m never going to buy a Chinese car or motorcycle”.

However…

A couple of months ago, my next door neighbour purchased a brand new CFMoto 450MT… and, you have to give credit where its due……What a great bit of kit! … The Chinese are indeed quick learners.

In his garage (over a beer or two), we have scrutinized, and examined this bike and concluded that it is indeed a quality piece of kit. The local family run dealership who supplied the bike has assured him that spares part supplies are not an issue, and they are cheap as chips.

If I was in the market to buy one … I would give it consideration. I can certainly see why they are selling so well, and why all established manufacturer’s should be worried.

Finally…Would I get on a Chinese manufactured aeroplane… my prejudicial inclination is still NO.

Very true - it's part of an insidious (and invidious) problem which is much deeper than simply the consumer 'end' product, and what it represents - be that a chink bike or a JLR. I don't see JLR surviving this, either; much the same way Jaguar bluffed governments for handouts for its EV program and look where that went? More blagging for government handouts seems to be the way the Indian owner's business model works.

The goods made in China are often the equal of stuff manufactured in the UK or Europe; sometimes not.
Labour costs in China are a fraction of what they are in the UK, and much of Europe; that's where big the problem lies.
The UK either embraces everything Chinesium, or takes a completely different step approach.

Me, personally, I don't really give a hoot what folk ride; I'm more than happy with my ride and that's all that matters.

a colleague of mine has a BYD company car - Big Yellow Dogshit as I call it. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Actually had a ride in it and its great. Its not the same as my Q3 or a Range Rover (havent been in a RR for about 10 years) but then again neither is the price. I am looking at a company car maybe and the top of the Range Jaecoo fits into my budegt - in fact I can get 2 of them..... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

They look great. Whats not to like.....and if it lasts 4 years then bingo!

Whats not to like.....

I'm sure once the Chinese state has overseen the demise of the European and US car makers then they will withdraw their subsidies and Chinese vehicles will be sold at more realistic prices.

As a priority Western industry needs access to cheaper energy *. I'd like to see what the Chinese manufacturers pay compared to the likes of JLR. VW etc

* stop the futures market setting the price!!

Don't bring me into this.😅
But I won't be buying one anytime soon as there is nothing that they make interests me.

Well, thanks for diverting some of my kickings! Much appreciated 👍🤣
My pleasure 😁 My thinking is I despise anything that comes from China. In my tiny tiny mind, they have well and truly stuffed us already. They are making us totally reliant on them, why other’s can’t see this is beyond me.
Each to their own mind set. I am happy with what I purchase, yes you can’t get away from some items being made over there. I am convinced my old Bmw R27 will have been made and assembled in Germany and the fact thats still on the road is proof the quality at that time was good. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for my 2023 Gs. 😔

Part of the reason why Chinese manufacturers are making a profit producing goods to such a high standard, is because they are heavily subsidised by their government.
They also have the luxury of cheep fuel and wages (1200 coal fired power stations).
It's difficult to see how European and Japanese manufacturers will fare in the future if the Chinese government keep turning the screw.
I do fear we are getting close to a tipping point when we will be totally reliant on Chinese goods.

PS, I'm not trying to pour piss on Chinese bikes because they're very good, too good.

PPS, Sorry for the political intervention.

I hear you…but in my opinion it will be a very sad day when we are reliant totally on Chinese goods! Let’s hope we will all be taken out by AI before that all happens. 😱

This is the 1970’s and 1980’s Shipbuilding and Heavy Engineering political hot potato haunting the UK all over again.
Look what happened to UK shipbuilding over those decades, and subsequently…. all that remains is a fucking load of nostalgia, YouTube videos, black and white photos, and sentimentality.

Maybe that’s why Deadbeat Burnham keeps reminding us that he wants to go back to the 1970’s 👍

Good post, by the way. Keep up the good work.

The breakdown of the nation’s imports is roughly:
  • European Union (EU): Accounts for 49.0% to 51.4% of total UK goods imports (including major partners like Germany, the Netherlands, and France).
  • China: Accounts for roughly 11.1% of total UK goods imports, making it a leading single-country source for electronics and manufactured goods.
  • United States: Accounts for roughly 9.1% to 9.6% of total UK goods imports, spanning machinery, fuels, and aircraft parts.
  • Rest of the World: The remaining balance comes from non-EU nations outside of China and the US (such as Norway, Switzerland, and India)
We chose to divorce ourselves from our largest multiple source, of course. The dumbness of that decision is plainly obvious.

Of the Chinese portion of roughly 10% (or a quarter to a fifth of our EU derived imports) motorcycles will form a tiny proportion. UK plc will not give a toss over them.
