The Falloffathon 17th/18th November 2007 (Ride report)

Firstly a big thanks to Timpo for some brilliant trails all weekend.
Thanks also to Tim and Tina for welcoming us into their home for the weekend, and feeding and watering us.
It was a brilliant weekends trailriding, a great pace each day, and packed full of fun. :D
We both really enjoyed ourselves. And sure a weekend in Wales wouldnt be the same without the Irish causing a bit of hassle!
The story: (as eoin wont be typing too fast at the moment!)
Saturday - After a fairly long day with few stops, light is starting to fade, and Timpo has a look in his eye that says, there's plenty more fun to come! :green gri
We loose a few of the group and Tim tracks back to see whats holding them up, to find Andy and Eoin on the floor in a mess of bikes.
A pheasant flew up from the hedgerow and in a flap of feathers, knocked both lads to the ground (last time in Wales it was a sheep that caused Eoins demise! - seeing a pattern?)
Andy had hurt his elbow, and Eoin had hurt his hand. He was just about able to ride the bike so after much deliberating and reading of maps, we got him to ride to the nearest pub (3 miles) and left him there to entertain the locals while we headed back to the cars. Of course the shortest route was across a mountain :augie and with darkness upon us this was an interesting ride to say the least!
I got back to Eoin in the pub, having taken some liquid pain killers, loaded up his bike, and headed off to A+E in Wrexham. We were in and out and arm in plaster within an hour! Got back to Tim and Tinas to a welcome indian and bottle of wine!
With Eoin out of the picture on Sunday, I decided the best way to cause problems on behalf of the Irish was not to fuel the bike before start off. :blast When that didnt impact the proceedings, me bike decides to start coughing and spluttering, and I learn the joys of "draining the carbs". Probably the result of a fairly deep "puddle" we encountered during the dark ride the previous evening.
It was another day packed full of some brilliant trails. Timpo you really know your way around those trails!
At one stage we were high up on one hill, and it actually started snowing on us! But even the onset of darkness wouldnt stop us, as Timpo desperately tried to wipe the grins off our faces.
But the reward for keeping going through it all was waiting back at the cars in the form of the famous chocolate cake which had travelled all the way from Berwick (Thanks Mrs Forrester!):thumb
After we said our goodbyes to all the lads, we headed back to Tims to pack up for the trip home. A bit of food at the local, and we headed on our merry way. Very tired, but buzzing after a great weekend.

I didnt get many photos, as the pace kept us moving. But here's a few:

Tina (a bit blurred - she's too fast!)

Looks like you guys had another great weekend.

Just bought myself a DRZ, so hopefully I can join you for the next adventure?

Oh Eoin, that sounds painful... :eek

If I remember correctly, the sheep encounter happened on the road as well, didn't it? Maybe you should rather stay off the tarmac? :nenau

Brilliant pics and very funny write-up, you all! :clap:clap:clap

Thanks for sharing your fantastic weekend with us who had to stay at home (still wading through the domestic mess called kitchen...)

Everything went wrong after this Eoin and Andy had their crash.
Sorry no pics Eoin was in to much pain to pose.

So it was a dash over the hills back to the vans in the dark.

Great report Forry, thanks for the effort and a real shame about your nose:P:D

Day 1 of Falloffathon 2007

Well it was an 800 mile round trip to Chez Timpo's for a fantastic weekends trail riding. Forry and I arrived around 9pm where Sarah had prepared a fantastic meal and then off down the Swan for a few swift beers and meet Timpos look alike aka Neanerthal man:augie

Early to bed for an early rise and a quick drive to the rendevouz where we met with Tim, Tina, Eoin and Orla. No messing about and onto the first lane within minutes. This was my first real day out on the Husky and it was to prove a tad over powered during the next few days with a severe lack of traction although very interesting at times:rolleyes:

One of the early lanes proved that momentum was a key factor and if you stopped it was hard to get going again.

Pic1 is Orla clearing the rise after I had held everyone up.

Pic2 is the Paparazzi lying in wait for the next celeb to make an attempt.

Later in the day we came to a fantastic spot with a superb few and Pic 3 is just some of the bikes lined up raring to carry one for a bit more. The views were superb and the weather, despite the BBC predicting rain was just great.

Day 1 Falloffathon 2007 cont'd

Down through the woods and along a lane to the "Bomb pit". Nobody was brave (daft!!) enough to try jumping it which would have been very difficult as the ground gave little grip to lift the front wheel and I for one was not capable anyway:mmmm

In between lanes we used the Tarmac roads and these were to prove hard to the touch:( I was right behind Eoin when a pheasant flew from the right at head hieght and took him out, his reaction (as was mine), was to apply the brakes and he dropped to the deck like a sack of spuds..... Oh no I thought as I applied my brsakes and just like Eoin hit the deck and skidded down the road. My body armour that I bought for this trip immediately paid for itself and I escaped with just a very sore elbow unlike Eoin who suffered much more. It all happened so fast but luckily nothing to bad. Eoin felt real bad but absolutely no need to as it was all just so unlucky and such a shame he missed the next day - Get well soon mate:thumb2

We left Eoin with some liquid pain killers in a local pub and headed across the hills back to the vehicles so Orla could get him checked out at the Hospital. The night riding was interesting to say the least but great fun.

After a quick discussion we decided to head on and see how things went but within a very short time it was obvious Eoin had done more damage than first thought. Tim had just completed his FBOS (first biker on Scene) training and used it to full advantage by taking photos for future p1ss taking;)

Day 2 of Falloffathon 2007

Another early rise found a fresh coffee waiting prepared by our hostess Sarah "Teach". A quick drive round to Mold to meet the others where we were joined by Earthmover, Lordy and Harry (Harrybal Lechter). I couldn't figure out what the steel bar was on his helmet but found out it was a trick eye protector for the brambles. He had left his hockey mask at home for the day.

Timpo took us down the driveway of his planned new house where we all stopped. Here is Harry and Lordy and you can see Harrys novel eye protector.

After many more great lanes Timpo took us to a cafe where we had a superb breakfast and a handful of Mars bars to get me through the day ahead. A full Breakfast was very welcome and a fine mug of coffee too. Thanks for the breakfast Forry - top man:thumb

After breakfast it was off to do a bit more......

At some stage during the day I broke my cluch lever on one of many offs but luckily nearly everyone except me had a spare one. I had meant to get some spare levers before coming but never got round to it however I am just about some online. Many Thanks Timpo for the loan of the clutch lever:thumb2

Another thing I am going to order is some hand gaurds. Its quite concerning riding along in a right hand rut only to catch your brake lever on a branch and stop dead:o not only that it hurts your fingers. The brambles were out in force and Forry got one across his nose whilst mine was limited to across my neck:(

Anyway, with new lever fitted and the dispute over who owned the 6" Bacho shifter we did a few more lanes. Orla's KTM was suffering with what was thought to be water in the fuel and it died on her a few toomes. One such time had the Paparazzi (Tina, Forry and Timpo) waiting again hoping for a faller in the ruts:augie

Earthmover was very quick on his CRF proving that his time in the Cambrian was no fluke - top rider:bow and ace cameraman who was first on the scene for my extra greaan lane I did in a certain field:augie

I didn't get to many action shots as I was either at the back or by the time I got my camera out every one had arrived.

I got a couple of movie clips but at the moment they keep failing on YouTube but I cant fathom out why as they are in avi format. If I get them uploaded to You Tube I'll post the links.

Anyway, many thanks again Timpo for organising this weekend it was just fantastic and any thanks to everyone who made it all worthwhile, great company and nice to meet those of you I havn't met before (Tina, Lordy and Harry).

I dropped Forry off at midnight where Mrs Forry provided coffe and cake and I finally got in at 0545 and off to work at 8:( I came home this arfternoon and crashed so may be on line for quite some time as my sleep pattern is all to cock.

I need to sort out my new job which starts in January so I can make the Adventure Riders weekends... so what are we doing next!!!

Have Fun

AndyT:cool:

Great write up,video and photos.
Although I had to miss the ride I still feel that I am able to share some of the fun through reading and looking at the write ups.
I'm running my smoke maker in at the moment ready to add to the atmosphere on one of the next rides:augie
I see that the pub automatically puts Tim's heroes on the TV whenever he goes in:D
Thanks

Smokin!

Eddie,

Next Sunday - get the stinker gassed up, should be out with Tim & Timpo somewhere - will keep you posted. :spl1f:

Cheers, Rick.

.......Andy had hurt his elbow.....
It's getting sore now :( Its the arm I rest on when falling asleep in meetings so I have to stay awake:rolleyes:

I also gave my right hand a good clout on a branch on the Sunday and that is blue too... (note to one's self buy Hand guards:augie).

Turkeys off the menu at Chez Turner and its going to be Pheasant;)

Can't wait for the next one.
