The HP2 Sport has landed

Tony
I will do some more pics as soon as it stops raining here - tomorrow hopefully.
:thumb2

Yeah, a pic from far away would help. They seem pretty nice. Did you have to modify the bike fairing at all (heaven forbid that).... or just the mirrors... or just bolt em up?

I had to enlarge the existing holes using a Dremil tool. They are now twice as big:eek:. However, the original mirrors will go back on using larger washers.:thumb

My thoughts exactly.

Stunning,stunning bike but £14500 !!!!!!!!!

Compared to £10695 for the RC8 I ordered.

Plus the RC has about 20 more ponies.

And seems to have rave reviews:

I really would love an HP2 Sport, but I think BMW are pricing themselves out of the market somewhat !!

This picture is much better

Ok, Here are some more pics from a distance.

I dont think they look too strange:toungincheek

PS...sorry theres not some tart draped all over it!

Well, a tart would definitely improve the looks of it. Seriously, it's not too bad, just slightly worse than the "Mickey Mouse" ears that come stock. For now I'm sticking with those.

On a different subject:
Those of you with the exhaust valve disconnected. Have you noticed an increase in fuel consumption?

Yonkyo - they look all right mate. I'm small so I don't have much problem with the standard items...............:D

Snakepilot (love the handle :D) I don't notice any difference, but then I don't really monitor the fuell consumption properley :Motomartin

CLING FILM!

Hi guy's,
Well after much (and I mean much) deliberation I bought an HP2 Sport from my local dealer. My mate had one on order last year and bottled it for a new Ducati Streetfighter S. I nearly took his order over but bottled it as well. Then this one sat in the window and I looked and looked and sat on it and looked and gave in!
After a ride on a Ducati 848 I new it just didn't have the buzz ( I don't want a wheelie hoisting 1198). The HP just oozes quality and it's so different. My Boxercup looks beautiful but just not a bit to heavy and slow. Great all round road bike though.
I hadn't been to this site so it's quite a relief to see such positive reviews (apart from half an engine at 30000 miles!)
Anyway such beauty needs protection and a hugger is the first but the ventureshield cling filmy type stuff has to be next. I see a couple of you have had it fitted so could you help on where, how much etc etc.
Thanks in advance.
Got a week before picking it up due to work and a trip to Spa but would like to get something sorted.
Absolutely gagging to get out on it after reading your posts. Sounds just right for me. Not interested in 170bhp rockets having tested most of them.

I have been following this thread with great interest as I was very seriously considering trading my GS Adv for one of these but in the end, for various reason, chose the Ducati 1198S. The HP2 is a lovely bike and I hope to continue to read your progress with it - good luck guys :beerjug:

Ps - you don't need 170 bhp to hoist a wheelie :mmmm

Servicing costs

Hi Folks.......Just had my 12,800 service out here in Spain. 199.95 euros all in. I thought that was very reasonable. I did supply the oil though because I wanted them to use Castrol racing 10w50, which I can buy out here OK, and I also supplied the air filter as I had bought one whilst in the UK. Price included brake fluid change as well. (2 1/2 hours labour at 48 euros an hour + vat.)

Under warantee they replaced the battery which seemed OK but I stalled the bike at a toll booth and it was "lazy" to start. That is the second BMW battery that has given up in under a year - the first being on a 1200 S - And I keep it on an optimate! Also they replaced an indicator under warantee as it had a bad connection............:Motomartin

PS the 50,000 km service entails an engine strip to replace the main bearings and pistons. (1 piston 450 euros) It will be cheaper than a blown motor though...........The mechanic told me that when the Sport leaves the factory it's at the peak of tuneability, so it has this shelf life of 50.000 kms. The only tuning left is a race pipe and race ECU :Motomartin

HP" Big Service

I was told at 30,000 miles big service over 3500 includes new con rods etc, love the HP2 but think I will keep 1200s, who would want to buy a second hand hp2 coming up to 20,000miles knowing 3500 to spend at 30,000miles.

Just check the service costs.

I replied this to Andy B - may help
At 50,000 kms (31,250 miles) there is a special engine check scheduled - happily not before - I can't see this being more than a complete top end visual examination, but..........I hope you are wrong about the cost!!
Anyway I have done 10,000 miles now so I guess I will get there first. Will keep you posted...........

Who needs to sell one??:)
(As above) bearings & pistons - no con rods & a day to a day & 1/2 labour, maybe £2,500 (but the labour is cheaper here I think) - not bad for what is to all intents a racing engine. I hate to think what a WSB motor costs to service and at less miles.
Actually the guy I was talking to reckons it would be fine for 60 or 70,000 kms if it hasn't been raced.........but would it be worth the risk? I had a 1200S before this & I loved it - even had a full titanium Akrapovic system fitted. But the difference between this bike and the 1200S is amazing...:Motomartin

I initially hit the panic button when I heard about the 30000 service so went straight to the dealer. Admittedly a new set up so not surprised he new nothing about it.
Anyway he got onto BMW and did a costing for me. He said parts at £1200 then labour + VAT. Probably near to £2000. Now whether that is true or not I don't know but he seemed honest about it.
Also as Chispitas mentioned it will depend very much on how the bike is used. I had another opinion on that as well. It seems this is an 'internal inspection' initially as they can't be sure how much wear there will be. The endurance bikes did have some ring issues. At 1st BMW wanted 140 bhp but settled on 130 bhp for reliability. Until some bikes hit 30000 they can't be sure and as usual want to be covered. If your bike is ragged on track days continuously then maybe it will want work. Road riding, even enthusiastic road riding isn't going to strain the motor anythng like as much. But we will see.
Anyway Ducati services were £500 - 600 for belts every two years no matter what mileage and my mate had his 996sps done recently only to find the followers and a cam u/s. That was £1800.
Well I've done a whole 50 miles! First impressions are, feels like a 600 to sit on, smooth motor, light gear change, mega quick shifter, steers quickly and precisely, mega brakes, sounds a treat especially overrun 'popping', roomy. In fact it seems everything I hoped it would be and more. Can't wait to use the engine harder after the first service.

Servicing on my 1198S is very competitive though I do believe older bikes (Ducs) are quite expensive, but aren't they all :blast As your are only up the road from me pop in for a coffee - if you're ever in Colchester :beerjug:

The 600 mile service on my old 1098 was £99...the first annual service was £175ish (my bike had done about 2,500 miles at the time)...the second annual service was going to be £201 + VAT plus the belts would need doing too which is another £175ish iirc.

My 1098 in Rosso looked beautiful...but i had several problems with mine in the first year of ownership...stalling being the main one but finally getting a new ECU out of Ducati UK fixed that...however the dash still steamed up a bit when i sold the bike and it had had two replacement dashs under Warranty already...i decided that i did not want to own it after the 2 Year Warranty ran out this July.

I pick up my HP2 Sport tomorrow, is every one happy with there's ? there is about 5/6 for sale at the moment which is quite a hight percentage considering there limited numbers !!!

It does seem a high proportion but some are new, a couple look like test bikes and of course not everyone will like it and sell it on.
Having been in your position quite recently I understand your feelings as it's a big investment and plenty will think you're mad or whatever.
All I can say is I will be surprised if you don't absolutely love it. I've just had the first service done so can give it a few revs. It will never be 1000cc inline 4 fast but it certainly shifts. In reality you can go plenty fast enough on the road when running in! 5000rpm is about 94mph. Once you can use all the rev's it flies. Pulls out of corners like a train.
Brakes are very strong. Riding position very good (I'm 6ft+ and have the pegs set for maximum leg room for the road). Handling excellent, although suspension comes a bit stiff. I'm on 2 clicks off compression front and rear and one click off rebound front and rear. I'm no suspension expert but it handles bumpy 'B' roads nicely. If I do a track day I'll go back to standard.
Engine is super smooth for a boxer but you can feel those pistons working as rev's rise. Not an issue though. Gearbox is normal boxer, clunky sometimes, smooth others, but the quick shifter is brilliant.
Get a hugger from Sandbar to protect the rear end and some ventureshield is worth it. The bellypan will take a hammering if not, especially the several sharpe leading edges. The kit they fit isn't totally covering but I got some offcut's from my supplier and did a few bits it missed.
I'm lucky enough to have a very nicely modified RC30 as well and it's been hard to get a new bike to compete with the ride, ownership, looks etc of such an iconic bike. The HP2S was the right choice. Can't be better than that for me. Have fun.:)

Collected mine just over amonth ago...........keeps my GS company
Two incarnations of the same engine but one has had surgery !

Agreed there are a few for sale out there but glad my money is in something more solid than the latest revision jap bikes

.and it compliments the rider-just enough power and loads of torque which is more usable on UK roads

Bet you can`t wait............:)

Well picked it up From Vines ( Guildford ) Yesterday, A bit scary really my other bike is a HP2E and the Sport is a little different (alot) Rode it back to Torquay ( long way round ) about 300 miles, wow this baby handles, and surprisingly comfortable, I had a bit of wrist ache at low speed, Quick shift Brill , great sound, smoother than the E aswell. Got it for a good price (I think) 09 bike there ex demo 1500 miles now 1800 miles, so all run in and no low revs, Mirrors show my shoulders off to perfection.
Very Very Very pleased, The perfect stable HP2 E and S...... It seemed really strange to be able to drive past a petrol station lol the E has a tank the size of a Coke can. Bought a hugger but not fitted it yet.
Just thought I would mention I don't think there is another bike out there that would make me grin more than the HP2E, it just makes me smile every time I ride it I don't know why I it just does.
