The HP2 Sport has landed

Hi one and all - how did your weekend rides go? You all must be near first service time?? I am going to have the 12,000 miler soon.:eek
How about some pictures ?? Or what about a new thread for pictures of the HP2 sport, now that there are a few of us with them:Motomartin

Exhaust Valve disconnect

Well....Yonkyo was right. It takes about two minutes to do.

The good news is...there is no bad news!

However, I cannot feel much difference in the perceived power characteristics. Perhaps a bit more linear throttle response, if anything. It feels as if the torque curve is unchanged, and the sound level, at least from the saddle, is about the same. Which begs the question. What is the purpose of the valve? I tend to think that the valve is not emissions related as that is the function of the catalyst & Motronic computer. Why would BMW go thru the effort and expense to include it if it is not required?

I can't comment as to the top speed. I rode about 50 miles before having to head home just ahead of the rain.

BTW, I did check that the valve was operational prior to disconnecting it.

I will leave it disconnected, at least for the time being, while hopefully some of you can chime in with your opinion and/or experience. :rob

valve exhaust

hi chispitas
well ,when the ignition is turned on the cable is pulled and then seems to go back to where it was ,i presume this primes the valve ,open or closed ,have not got a clue without pulling apart :nenau. looks to me it might work of the engine temp and fueling and adjust accordingly ????? . anyone else have a clue:nenau. i have not disconnected it yet as its due for a first service in the next 2 weeks :). .. i have noticed now that the bike backfires a lot more and is a lot louder ,pops back at around 2900 and 2700 again at 2400 to 2200,not complaining as it sound great:) ,did adjust bars the weekend to the lower position and put them back to the higher position :nenau, not much in it 4 mm to 6 mm at the end of the bars max:rolleyes:. after a blast round on the bike normal corners that i go round at speed did notice that you can go an extra 10 to 15 mph without the bike getting upset at all ;). on the other bikes it would of been pushing it a little:eek . :thumb. also averaging 45+ to a gallon 4.5 ltrs while running in .

Glad to hear that all you HP2 Sport owners are enjoying your bikes...and if any of you have a 38" waist i have a pair of unused black leather BMW Motorrad ProRace trousers for sale in the 'items for sale' section. Yonko...you must almost be a 38" waist and i only live up the road from you!

hi guys
i have had the first service not rode her yet, raining here hoping for some good weather over easter. i am still pondering on to disconnect the exhaust valve the feed back you guys are giving me is there is no difference so maybe best left alone, the mechanics are under the impression its on the bike for emissions and only opens at a certain rev position .
had her wrapped up in venturesheild hopefully stop stone chips we shall see.

Just fitted a Hid unit in my dipped beem. I don’t do much night time riding on my HP2S, but it’s a good safety feature for day riding I think.

Some of my Spanish friends take pictures on the Ronda road, so I thought I would post a few. Hopefully you and the other guys can post a few action shots of your HP2's..............:Motomartin

today been out on mine to work , way home tipped it down ...
also found out how about the indicators now .... walked past mine in the garage and as they stick out my trouser leg caught on the front left and snap ,almost hanging off . double whaaaaa . tried to push back in the rubber looking sleeve and would not go in .nearly in tears now , sat there for a minute with a thinking cap on . went and got a tube of superglue ,dripped a drop in and pushed the indicator back in , slipped straight in and then went in for a hour ... came back and then put a small drip round the sleeve looking piese of rubber , now stronger than the original ..... . they are pretensiously weak and easily caught by your trousers walking past . would not like to think how much one was to buy from bmw ... still gutted that it broke so easy. they might look good and thats it .big word comes to mind FRAGILE . :bow

tipped it down

hi rubin

Hi Yonkyo. Glad to see the belly pan repaired - looks like a great job......... BTW I love the pic of "Beauty & the Beast", I only wish I was tall enough to ride a GS:)
The GSA is massive bike and very tall (i'm only 5'8" tall). However, once you have climbed on and you get it rolling, the weight just disappears. It is truly all day comfortable and it handles any road you care to throw it down.:bow

BTW Tony, Excellent pics. What PB said is spot on with pic 4, its a special one.

I'm going for a blast down to the south coast on mine tomorrow, so i'll try to get some nice shots.

Cheers
Brian

Hey pb The indicators are indeed very fragile. I smashed the lens of one of mine last year (must have been a stone hit it). a new indicator cost £30:mmmm not a bad price really.

p.s. hurry up and get some PP2CT's on your bike before you throw your HP2 down one of those wet Cornish roads..:rob:tears

p.p.s. Bought a new helmet last week. Black and white to match the bike:cool:

I have Megamoto registered 11/2007 and HP2 Sport registered 10/2008 and those have not seen each others yet. Megamoto was in Finland over winter and now it's in Spain, but HP2 Sport is in garage under reconstruction. :blast

Hey pb
Sounds like you need to buy a hugger. It will keep all the crap off your back end..:comfort

bike

hi yonko
check out that helmet eh ,i was looking at those in the dealers ,nice , can't beat a arai ... the pp2cts are fab :),have them on a ducati s4rs. as for a hugger its a good bet for the damp weather.... the indicator ..£30 notes is a bonus ;),i thought it would be at least £50 plus postage .. . be paranoid now about walking past the bike in the garage or even cleaning it with a rag:eek: ,they are that flimsy its a joke ..... nice day down here today ,no bike trips for me though . :(
cheers pb:thumb2

Hi Guys
Glad you liked the pics - always concerned wether to post action pictures of your yourself or not :hide I don't know about the picture in the garage - living room more like :D

Brian That Arai is lovely..........The more I see pictures of the GS the more I want one. I'm in the UK for 2 weeks at the end of the month so am going to test ride one & a 800 GS which might suit me better.:thumb (also collecting a new Buell Lightning xb12Scg)

Rubin When you leave Santander for Burgos take the N623: It's a great twisty, well surfaced road going over 2 passes. Breathtaking scenery if you have time to watch:D You split from the route I take South at DosBarrios for Albacete. Don't take the toll road - horendously expensive and if you have time, detour at Albacete to the East and take the N322 towards Valencia. A fast blat to Casas Ibaniz then one of the best twisties you can find up to Villatoya Then either double back or take the N330 back to Benidorm.

PBS I ran mine in in the terrible weather last April and rode across Spain in the rain, so I have washed & re-washed my baby - IT DOES COME BACK UP LIKE NEW - but it's hard work and the front wheel is a ba....d to clean. I find it best to take it out to clean:D

Eka I hope your bike won't take long too long to fix. I'm looking forward to riding with you one day. Mind you, having watched the video of you on the Ronda road I was wondering if I could keep up until I saw that you had speeded it up. Great video as is the one of the old Malaga access road:thumb2

Saludos from Spain - Tony:Motomartin
