The HP2 Sport has landed

what a real nice looking bike a bit costly but mint.

the rc8 looks good also, very thin bike and a back end out of star trek ( a kling on bird of pray) will it be tough enough to last a few years we will see ,,

Yonkyo - a long time since you posted! Did you ever get the belly pan repaired??

I am thinking of selling my bike. At the moment its out in Spain but not a problem to get it back to the UK - my question is do you know the best medium other than e bay to sell it? Anyone else out there can you give me suggestions and also what price to ask? It has now done 6,000 miles but they must be very sort after:)

Hi Tony

How come you are selling your HP2s. Though i see you have done a lot of miles on the bike:thumb (i've done 1700miles so far...yes i must be a light weight:augie).

Sorry i can't help you with recommending a selling medium...MCN perhaps?

Tell me though, what has 6000 miles on the HP2s been like? highs? Lows? please pm me if you don't want to go public.

cheers
Brian

:)Thanks for the replys - I have been away for a week so no posting......

I have decided to keep it now at least until next spring. Brian I will post a reply about the 6,000 FABULOUS miles a bit later & post a couple of pics. The reason for wanting to sell was basically the workshops are a shambles in this neck of the woods and I need a service (which I can do myself) but I need the stamp in the book!
Anyway I have found someone to do it in Puerto de Santa Maria; a long way but...........:)

Rgds - Tony

Hi Brian

No I don't mind going public as long as I am not boring the pants off everybody.

The lows are very specific. NONE in its performance or riding ability. This is quite simply the best bike I have ever owned:) However what pisses me off is there is no BMW workshop near me that I would trust to do the service without breaking something or not even doing the job correctly. Down here all they care about is sales. Servicing/repairs is just a nescessary evil; or at least that is the impression most people have. One major BMW dealer near me has a beautiful showroom, but the bike workshop is a shed! Realy!
I phoned Boxer Motad in Seville who have a brand new workshop with a glass front and a cafe so that you can sit & relax & watch your bike being serviced; I asked what oil they use for my bike & the answer was semie synthetic - they just didn't know. The other thing that's getting me down is that if I break any of the carbon fibre there is about a six month wait for the parts. That is simply a crazy situation. It means that always at the back of my mind is "don't drop it you can't repair it" - no good on a track day! Well that's the lows. It's almost as if BMW don't care especially with the workshop situation here!

The rest is pure bliss - 6000 miles of twists and turns every sat/sun morning. A397 to from San Pedro to Ronda mainly. Or a very technical road from El Burgo to Alozaina (easily found on google).

You asked me what the Metzeler sportec m3's are like, well they have done 2,500 miles and have about another 1000 in them. I changed the Mitchelins at 3,785 miles - but the m3's have been used harder. What I didn't know when I changed to Metzeler was the profile was a 50 not 55 (they don't make a 55 in the sportec). To be honest I didn't notice much difference but that could be the cause of a feeling of chatter if I have lost my bottle a bit entering a bend and not quite going for it.l I have just bought some Pirelli corsa 3's, which I'll fit next and keep u informed. Both set of tyres used so far have plenty of meat in the centre but as I am using them on a mountain, the sides just get wiped otherwise u would definately get more mileage out of them.

The best way to tell you how good it is is to post some pics in another post below this as I am not sure I remember how to do it.:D

Please let me know about your belly pan.?????????????????:)

Hi Tony:thumb2

Thanks for info and great pics, oh those excellent Spanish roads…..
It must be very frustrating for you not to have a decent BM dealer down there.

I still haven’t repaired my belly pan (bit skint and the moment:().

I’ve improved the mirrors greatly though, by fitting some one inch extensions (modified VFR ones).:thumb

I’m just packing my kit ready for the ride down to Valencia on Wednesday, so I’m all excited about blasting down through Spain. As you know, the roads from Santander to Valencia via Zaragoza are outstanding.

Luggage = Tank bag and small back pack…shame you can’t fit a tail pack to the thing.:(

:beerjug:

I don't check in here anymore since it is like poking sharp sticks in my eyes, and I'm whining bad enough already. All you blokes are already racking up the K's while mine isn't due for delivery until October, a whole year on the wait list.

:thedummy

The update, per my dealer - no deliveries of HP2 Sports in Australia until 'maybe January 2009'. I cancelled my order and got my deposit back. I was number five on the delivery list having put down my deposit in early October 2007.

Now I see there are two new ones, maybe three, sitting on showroom floors in the USA, one in the UK and now three used ones for sale in Europe. Sheesh.

I put the budgeted money to good use though, resurrected the R1100S track bike with a new set of tires and replaced the entire roof of my house...with $$$$ to spare.

GSmonkey;1341091I'm sure it'll do better than the R1200S - BMW have warehouses full of those unsold!!!![/QUOTE said:

hi guys i have been following this thread with great interest as i have a hp2 sport on order and have been waiting since last august. i have been promised the delivery date is now 4 april which i am none to bothered as the weather is crap.
the question i want to ask is how are the current owners finding the bike as i bet you have all done a fare few miles?
the second as anyone heard have bmw lowered the spec on the 09 hp2s as its rumoured they are be interesting to see if they have

Exactly.

Though the tide has turned.

For instance, the GSXR 1000 K5/K6 was much better than the current model, which is now heavier to meet ever tightening emission regs.

Wise words indeed but have you heard the new R1 - I might not ride like Rossi but now I can sound like him :D

i asked about the lower spec rumour and received a letter from bmw saying it will be the same as the 08 bikes.

I have about 2,300 miles on mine so far. Bike wise the only changes are that I have softened the suspension...it's way to stiff out of the box for bumpy roads.

For me the biggest challenge was getting used to the seating position. I'm used to upright seating positions and the Sport is much more agressive. I'm actually training myself to strengthen muscles needed to ride the bike. That, coupled with seat time, is making it easier to ride the bike.

The bike: Power is great for an air-cooled twin. The brakes are almost too strong. I rode only the Sport for three days then jumped back on my Megamoto, which has great brakes, I felt like I had no brakes! They're that strong. At slow speeds don't use only the front. It will feel like the bike wants to swap ends!

On the freeway it's better than you would think. There's enough wind blast to keep your weight off of your wrists. It's not too cramped for a sport bike.

On-off throttle is a bit jerky. When you're really flying you don't notice this.

The gauges are hard to read unless you are tucked in. At night they work very well since you can adjust the rear lighting.

The fit and finish is first class. Every bit as good as the Megamoto. The body work needs to be removed to adjust the preload for the front. The whole "surround" around the tank is one piece! It's *extremely* light as you would expect being CF.

Cleaning it is a snap. It picks up very little in the way of road dust. Biggest cleaning pain is the groove inside the spokes on the wheels. I just need to get a small brush to get in there.

High speed handling - awesome. The bike changes direction *quickly* yet at the same time is very stable. Great blend of skills. I've always liked the telelever front ends. Works great on this bike too.

It's been too cold or wet for me to give the bike 100% since I've bought it...probably a good thing since I'm still getting used to it. By the time it's sunny and dry I should be able to fly faster on this bike than anything I've ever owned.

thanks pgm for that, makes it a bit more reasuring they havnt touched the bike.
naked rider it sounds as though you are enjoying the beast and getting to grips with it cant wait for mine 4th april d day

Hi Rubin............the lower spec was, it seems, a rumour started by MCN when they had nothing better to do...ha ha. All the bikes coming through now (2009) are the same spec. All you really have to worry about is the the value of sterling to the euro...........

I have done 9,500 miles on mine mostly on twisty mountain roads.
IT IS THE BEST BIKE I HAVE EVER OWNED and I have owned a few. So hang in there, You will love it!!

I disagree with "naked rider" about cleaning. (Sorry mate!) If it gets wet & mucky it takes time to clean properly; being a trellis frame it is difficult to reach into all the nooks & crannies. Best bet is to remove the wheels & belly pan. Even then the front wheel is a bas...d as the discs are so big. (I find a tooth brush best for the most difficult to reach places. However he is right about the front brake - I never use more than 1 finger on it & I never need to use the rear except when manovering slowly. :Motomartin

thanks chispitas much apritiated
heres some food for thought
i was talking to a exhaust specailist today about the ackroprovic version for the hp2 sport and in my opinion it dosnt look as good as the stock can .his reply was as anyone considered just taking the cat out of the stock system. would there be any gains ? would it sound any better? i dont know what do you guys think i would be interested in your views

It wouldn't sound any different - the sound comes from the can. You can't remove the cat without cutting the pipe and welding another section in.
Then you could have warantee problems and (IMO) it may not run as well without some tuning, despite the sensors.
If some firm would make a tuned length of downpipe................:Motomartin

Hi there peeps

I'm sat here having a nice cup of tea, contemplating going for a blast on the HP2S. When i realise that i haven’t shown anyone my lovely HP2S mug....
