Climbed all over the UK and spent two seasons climbing in the French Alps with Mick in the early 80's.

Had a dig around and found a picture of me and Mick climbing ice falls at the side of a road in Sweden :thumb2

Oonyack he say.'

'I will give you safety by strength'
well done that man.

also...............

'his sister Margaret, was the wife of Sir Malcolm Wallace of Elderslie, and the mother of William Wallace, the Scottish freedom fighter, although a recent translation of Wallace's Seal suggests that the freedom fighter's father's actual Christian name was Alan.' ooer :o

Interesting post Ronno, very surprising that no one knew about him.

Is it worth a pic?

I would be interested in seeing it and what they said about him.

I had my camera when I passed through Currie today. I can never quite fathom out why the plaque and memorial to Dougal seem so cold and impersonal. :(

I'm sure it wis Clint Eastwood:confused:

Guid story Ronno bet it took longer tae find this thread again than the memorial:D

i'm sure Hamish MacInnes had some thing to do wi that one too, or was it "where eagles dare" maybe:o

Yer right. :thumb2 Hamish was drafted in by Dougal Haston to help with a particularly difficult technical stunt (the one where Clint Eastwood cuts the rope and falls backwards).

Ahh Ronno i am a Currie boy born and bred and i live only 2 minutes from the Haston Memorial. I never really knew much about him till i started reading his book but the places he mentions in it are where i played in my youth, next time your round that way let me know and i,ll treat you to a pint in the lovely Kinleith in Juniper Green
