The Longest Day

If you're in Eugene and you fancy staying the night in a Tipi, Mike, you could try these folks - http://www.tipivillageretreat.com

If you do, tell Suzanne and Ken that I sent you. When we were there in 2010, Ken had an R1200 GS which he loaned me, an R100S and an R69S.

8th July 2105 - continued

Well, they took AGES to do the oils - two and a half hours - and then kept a straight face when presenting a bill for just under $270. Still, I expect some of that was for storage...

I'm in the wrong line of business...

I wandered around the place a bit, having finished my journal thus far, and had a look at the other visitors - this one looked interesting...

I've never ridden a combination (hack, whatever)...

...and always thought it must be something of a dark art. One day, perhaps...

Jeff finds me - they've finished filling the gearbox with crushed unicorn's testes and it's time to pay the bill.

I'm soon riding into the (very warm) sunshine and heading the seven or so minutes up the road to my room at the Super 8 at Springfield. I turn the aircon onto Pluto and relax.

I have about an hour before I meet some ADVriders this evening - I'll get Doris to plot me a route...

It's 94F and that sounds like camping - thanks anyway Mike... :D

They do have a cabin and an outside kitchen and lots of local friends who are pretty cool, including one guy who's on Adv Rider but who's name escapes me at the moment. :nenau

8th July 2015 - continued, continued

15 minutes from my motel (which, by the way, is equipped with indecently fast Wi-Fi

) is the Quackers Last Stop...

...where I have been invited to meet some of the PNW ADVrider folk...

IMG_0203-L.jpg

I am introduced to everyone and promptly forget all their names (in fairness, I told them this would happen :D). We chat and bullshit about things for a couple of hours - I have the house special...

...which was delicious and probably had more recognisable vegetables and wholesome stuff in it than the rest of my meals this trip :D

Everyone starts to depart around 1900, and I say thanks to Roger for inviting me (and for giving me a load of Oregon maps and stuff to read on the plane home - top chap

).

I get Doris to take me home, but my attention is drawn to this monstrosity...

Don't bother guessing - I'm pretty sure I don't want to know...

What a good day.

Excellent stuff Mike :thumb2

There are professional travel writers who don't do as good a job of "bringing you along".

Many thanks.

9th July 2015

A great night's sleep - this is undoubtedly the best Super 8 I've stayed in...

Spot of breakfast, then...:D

IMG_0209-L.jpg

I spotted this yesterday - in the next block to the hotel. Not a new Apple form of pogo stick, but the International House of Pancakes...

That'll start the day right

More later...

Is that the first time you've been in an IHOP, Mike? One of the worst gastronomic sights I've ever seen was a large lady eating bacon and pancakes with a side of strawberries and cream in the IHOP on Lombard St in San Francisco. Fair put me off my breakfast, so it did....:(
