re explorer

i also have a blue launch model very impressed with it also
was going to get my first service done as well this sat but there busy i guess with yours
have your fitted any extras to it yet ? i have bits on order from the uk crazy fitting charges in dublin

Got it done last Saturday Paddy, ill not be giving "crazy prices" to anyone for fitting parts, thats for sure, nothing extra ordered or fitted yet but will be considering Givi Trekkers , heated grips and maybe a rad protector, very happy with the bike, lads in Dublin Triumph told me that the Explorer itself accounted for 27% of all new bike sales in the UK during March

How's urs doing? getting much driving out of it?

I would suggest that is more accurate. It's a new model after all and there were quite a few deposits laid down

Saying the Explorer accounted for 27% of all new bike sales in the UK in March sounds like 'dealer speak' to me too ....... not like a dealer would/could getting something like this wrong? :augie

Surely you're not suggesting a dealer would be "creative" with sales figures?:D

I was one of the people who laid a deposit down, coming from a Tiger 1050, 2 speed Triples and a Daytona.

When I got my test ride I found the FI to be a bit twitchy low down, and the build quality seemed a bit "variable"

A nice bike though, but I ended up with a GS, I just found it to have a lot more character, and the deal on the table was better as I was financing it.

The Triumph will be a great bike, there's just a couple of edges that need polishing first.

On the dealer front, my Triumph dealer slated BMW, my BMW dealer just said, no pressure, it's a lot of money, you need to pick what's right for you.

That says it all really. You made the right choice.:thumb:beerjug:

Clearly wrong - March along with January and February makes up Quarter 1 of the year when the GS/GSA was still the best selling bike in the UK. It cannot even be 27% of total Triumph sales - so clearly another dealer talking complete rubbish ;)

Enjoy your Explorer by the way :beerjug:

Why can't it?

1,354 Triumphs sold in March - 27% would result in 365 Explorers being sold which would have resulted it it being the best selling adventure bike which it was not as this went to the 1200GS with 229 sold.

Therfore the 27% figure makes no sence what so ever

Does anyone really care :comfort

If you're in for a new bike and fancy a 1200 GS or an Explorer , buy whichever you fancy, and health to enjoy it :Motomartin

Accompanied a mate on a 2 hour test ride today, he coming from an RSV1000, me on 2005 GS.

He really enjoyed it, leant the screen back bit which reduced buffeting, he was surprised (pleasantly) by the turn of pace, the elevated riding position and the handling (although it was pretty horrible today in Yorkshire)

It didn't feel massively heavier than the GS, in fact perhaps the opposite. The engine is a peach and seems to go a fair lick even using up to 6.5k - with the optional can it will make a lovely racket!

Previous comment re the reach to the cruise control was proven to be true (in fact it didn't appear to work on the demonstrator)

Shaft drive looks massive but the torque reaction arm looks a bit Heath Robinson
Switch for the fogs is an afterthought and apparently the grips switch is similar (not fitted to demo and sorely missed)
On the downside the throttle was horrible - it needs more 'inertia', its far too light and worryingly seemed to have freeplay in it which presumably being ride by wire, is not adjustable. I hate any free play in twist grip and must admit, it is something I'm a bit anal about. Coming from a couple of years of tele-lever, the front end dip seems very odd and I was unimpressed by the brakes - perhaps just a different feel to my servo setup.

I would certainly not say no if offered one but would hope that a GS would be a safer place for my money - I would worry about residuals of the trumpet. However the prices of GS's may take a hit next year with the release of the water-cooled model.
Either way I'll be happy if my mate chooses one as he may take on some longer rides on some more interesting roads and thats not a bad thing.

:blagblah
