The Next Best Bike in The World Ever......Thread :-)

However you look at the the front end it definitely grabs attention and won't do KTM's image any harm at all. Me, after a while to make my mind up, I like it.......a lot :)

Andres

Edit: In fact, I think the new styling of the whole bike is pretty spot on. Obviously not as classy and iconic as the 1190R but pretty good none the less........

I like the fact that it has a toaster on the front, I like toast.

Now that was funny!
What's happened to the KTM dealer that used to be just to the south of Aberdeen? I've been there, a few years ago, but it doesn't appear to exist any more. Perth is now the nearest to me.

I think KTM have been listening to Nutty, I know of an old school KTM dealer who has lost his franchise this year for the larger machines because his premises do not meet the "Nutty" criteria....

Let me guess, they did hand written receipts?:P

That boils my piss.:rob:JB

But, will the 1290R be any good?

That headlight doesn't meet my cleaning criteria.............looks far too complex

:D

Bring back brown over coats, long 'weights' and full ash trays on grease stained counters :rob

Twizzle - Are you talking about Popes? Only been there once, but it looked to me like they had no room for any bike over 250, though I admit their skill at jigsawing so many bikes together into such a tight space was certainly very impressive :)

Disappointingly, there were no brown coats and I got a printed receipt :(

The headlight is damn ugly, but not visible when sat on the bike so not an issue to me, the new dash does no light my fire either - especially if considering keeping the bike until after the warranty expires - then again the same thing applies to all of the electronics and suspension so I might have to face the fact that continued KTM ownership is a risky business if not trading up every couple of years which is a bit much for me.

Given a 3 year warranty and a good end of year leftover deal like I got on my 1190 I would trade up for the 1190S, the cruise control is the only new feature that adds much, but also happier with normal wheels that will hold air better and not bend the first time they hit a big stone or go out of true and wobble all over the place, and I don't do anything tougher than a gravel or dirt track so no need for a monster front wheel.

Be very interested in how it compares to my current 1190S.

I like the headlight. I'm in two minds about the dash though. Looks great but...

Having an iPad on the bars of a dirt bike looks a bit wrong.

Doesn't leave much/any room for a sat nav above, which is the best place for one, in line of sight. I understand KTM will eventually be releasing software to cast a phone screen to the dash panel, but it's not here now + I may want to use mapping unavailable on iOS/Android.

I actually like the look of the old instrument pod, despite it's limitations.

I have no interest in cruise control, hill hold, clutch slip software, lamps that light up the verge 10 foot from the bike etc. so I'll be hanging onto my 1190R for a bit longer. That said, if it were to go up in a ball of flame tomorrow, the 1290SAR would be top of my shortlist of replacements. Having non-proprietery, conventional suspension is a big plus with both R models for me.

Interesting to note that the 1290S has revised steering geometry. I always said it steered funny. The 1290SA and 1190R steer much better.

I never understood any negative comments on the "old" dash, it is so simple I took to it in a matter of seconds, Ok when using favourites you have to sort of select and select again before changing anything, but not exactly difficult.

I also love the steering of my old model, be interesting to see if I prefer the changes.

With you on the R's suspension, the one thing I really dislike is expensive non rebuildable suspension units.

I'm warming to the idea of getting a bigger KTM (1190 appeals) but it appears that we only have Drysdales, in Perth, serving Scotland and I don't know where the next nearest dealer is! From what gets written on here KTM dealers seem to be a bit of hit and miss! That's a real shame (they need to get that sorted now) as the bikes look the business!!!!

+1 :thumb2

I also think how thick some of our so called motorcycle journalists are when they kept banging on and on about it. A bit like the drivel they kept spouting about Honda VFR Vtec serving costs.

Was the 1190 dash the first to incorporate the Favourites idea, because that is a great idea? The selection process is a bit weird, but as stated above, it's not rocket surgery.

A bit hard to read the L/H screen in sunlight perhaps, but the main screen is an object lesson in presenting information. The one on the GS LC on the other hand is something that put me off that bike.

Just heard back from my dealer...

Super Adventure 1290 S being delivered on 10th March :aidan

And I like the new headlights :pullface
