The Next Best Bike in The World Ever......Thread :-)

In my humble opinion WP suspension on KTM is better than WP suspension on anything else !

The WP units on the SDR are sublime

Fuck I am talking myself into one

I don't think you're completely correct there.............take a 690 Enduro R, post 2013 - it has WP suspension but many people complain how poor it is for offroad and then try to fit better upgrades

Not all WP is the same, remember all new bikes are built to a budget. good or bad?

I'm not sure if this applies to the big girl but on the smaller bikes KTM took a while to get the PDS shocks sorted; they are now sorted though :thumb2

Lovely day today so took the current best bike in the world for a potter .....

Had to have a complete revalve of both front and rear suspension to get it right.

Best bike in the world heads for Morocco tomorrow :beerjug:

The 1290SAR has got a PDS shock, and that would be an improvement worth having IMO.

I like the shock on my 1190 - it is allegedly a PDS unit.

The springing is on the Sporty side of Comfy (or the Comfy side of Sporty depending on your view point) and the damping is excellent, even in Comfort it is fairly taught, the only time I can provoke any wallow is when pressing on along bumpy roads or when I am loaded with luggage - and then I just flick it into Normal mode and all is well again.

It feels a shade high at the back and I measure it at about 22mm of static sag - and it annoys me I cannot have a go at fine tuning it, same for the front which is very soggy and does not feel well matched to the rear. I have sort of got used to it, but wonder how awesome it would be if I could add a bit more rear sag and stiffen up the front a shade (although I think the Forks really could do with stiffer springs)

The 1290 with the Dynamic might be a great improvement - but I still have the same concern of what happens when it gets a bit tired after 10,000 miles or is totally devoid of damping at 20,000 and a new unit is going to cost a couple of grand.

Having said all that, in the past I have spent a lot of money upgrading various bikes (Exhausts / Suspension / Remaps etc) tempted just to leave the KTM stock and put the modification / unnecessary farkle money towards chopping it in before it costs a fortune to fix - the art is in identifying when the time has come to hand it back to the dealer.

Possibly 'cos KTM own WP :thumb and yeah, the first thing that struck me upon riding Melch's SDR was just how refined the suspension was and secondly......................all 180bhp of that amazing engine :D :D :D

SDR is a lovely bike but it ain't 180 bhp?

Won't be collecting it for over a week as only just back from trip away on the Guzzi today and off to work for 10 days tomorrow.

Gives them time to get it ready then I'll fit the panniers/frames and bugger off on it for a while as going to be off work for some time .
