The Next Best Bike in The World Ever......Thread :-)

Don’t know if link will work!

ermm - copied dropbox link in but it didn't work

anyway - power and torque curves were like a stegasaurus' back up to 6000rpm before, now nice and smooth. Allegedly it now makes 80 ft lbs from 3000rpm, didn't reach that sort of level until 8000 rpm before. Bit hard to really test it on these snotty roads

figures do seem pretty dramatic, but surging around town has gone, and it pulls cleanly in top from <50 mph

I think my GT will be heading to Leicester soon. Maybe Geoff will be able to disable the wheelie control in Sport mode as he did on my XR

best money you can spend. Similarly good on my GS before. I can send someone a pic of dyno graph if they want to upload it for me!

Hope this is the Next-Best-Bike-In-The-World-Ever as I've just put a deposit on one from AMS. Trading in my beloved 950SM which I've had from new so it has a hard act to follow (albeit a different one). Haven't test ridden it, but did ride a 1290GT (fast but slightly cramped) - and I never tested the 950 before I bought that either.

Any advice before I take delivery?

Thanks

Enjoy it :beerjug:

Is it a run out 2017 model or a 2018 model? If a 2017 make sure that it has had the fuel pump recall done before picking up. Just found out that Laguna did not do mine as part of the PDI just over 2 weeks ago which is a little disappointing :(

My local dealer Redline picked up on it when I booked it in for it's first service - not caused a problem so far :)

PS - R or S ?

What fuel pump call are you referring to mate?

That wasn't an official recall.:rob:D

The only glitch mine had was a faulty electronic steering lock. (It wasn't faulty ... it just didn't work!). The dealer told me that another bike had had the same problem. I can see how a dealership would not / forget to check something like that in a pdi ..... Maybe run that past them before you pick it up ...

Stupidly chopped my 1190R in for a Rallye last year, major mistake, will get a 1290r later this year.

..........OK but my bike comes up on the KTM computer as needing the " fuel pump TI". I guess TI may stand for Technical Improvement rather than recall :P

Either way I would suggest Lungauer checks whether it needs doing ;)

It's a 2017 R, one of their staff bikes which has done less than 500 miles - a good saving from new. They are adding the travel pack and will do the first service so I will get them to check the fuel pump recall (edit: Technical Improvement!)- and the steering lock. Thanks both for the heads up.

Check the heated grips if fitted. Mine are not useless, but compared to a 3 1/2 year old GS that will toast your hands on High, they're pretty rubbish when you really need them. Not great for an Adventure bike. They even switched themselves off after an hour or so on one ride (temp 2degC), like they needed a rest! I'd make other plans if I wanted to go somewhere really cold.

I take the car.

If it is cold enough for Ice I do not want to be on the bike, on my GS I still needed bar muffs for Winter commuting, I think my 1190 (KTM) heated grips are similar to my old GS ones - maybe a bit better as they have 3 settings as opposed to the Luke Warm or Boiling hot of the GS - I think the GS on Hot were hotter, but often too hot and the cooler setting was too cold. The KTM ones do very little on low, are a nice boost on cooler days on medium and work OK down to the point I would rather not be on a bike (5c)

That's strange - really rated the heated grips on my 1190 and just as good on the 1290S - was out last Sunday with temperatures around 3 or 4 degC (it started snowing at one point) and hands stayed warm on medium setting and that's with Grip Puppies fitted over them ;)

Right...good to know, thanks. Maybe there's something wrong with the voltage regulator or something that side as I doubt the grips themselves are faulty - both get to same low temp.
