My 1994 1100gs with abs makes a sound like somrthing dry its hard to discribe' when i pull off for the first time
Having just read a post mentioning ABS noise on set off is this the noise

Hard to know without hearing it, but if it's just when you set off the first time it'll be the ABS. They all do that sir...

Given the difficulties of describing noises,if it sounds like a 'squeaky clunk' as if something`s gone around on the disc, and after hearing it the ABS lights go out, then yes....that`s all A-okay :thumb

My (new to me) 850GS makes a noise which sounds like the top stand rubbing off the road and then popping up. Kind of a squeal then clunk!
It does it when I first move off then every now and again when I stop and re-move on in traffic.
After trawling this forum I'm now satisfied that it's the ABS that causing this and that it is normal.

I did go to the bother of recording the sound which was a laugh as my wife ran
alongside the bike (in our driveway) with a recorder. I can send it to you if you like.

Hey! Wouldn't it be a good idea to have an archive of known good and not
so good sounds. (or is there one out there somewhere already?)
Regards
Fran

I would get a nasty noise (Knocking) when pulling off first thing in the morning or after a cold night, a call to Mitch @ MSM he said it could be damp in the throttle bodies and the butterflies are not sitting, a squirt of Teflon based lube would do the trick.
Spot on no more noise :thumb

My 1150GS ABS makes a noise that sounds like the centre stand hasn't retracted properly. 'Cle clank' ! It does it when I stop at junctions/traffic lights etc as well. Its nothing to worry about. :D

The 1150 abs clatters like hell for a couple of turns of the wheels, the abs lights go out and while its running should not make the noise again until you kill the engine and start again.

'Cle Clank' as you pull away after startup then periodically when pulling away again from stop. Furpectly normal. Is ABS 'self check' :thumb

Thanks for all the sound effects you have described the sound i hear to a tee :thumb
With 72000 on the clock was a bit paranoid as its never been apart for 12 years :D

GS 1100 ABS Clunk on ride off?

KTM Mark,
You have brought a good one. I just clock 72,000 ks on mine also on the weekend very pleased with the old girl? ( Dont tell these blokes, a new one would be nice,$$)? As you have found out Yes it does sound like the centre stand not retracting? Yes your ABS is active. No problems. Just push it round the corner and start off away from your mates? Joking, joking? Oh I did have trouble with mine. The Bike shop ( non BMW) serviced it and contaminated the Brake Fluid. Result seals blew? Good engine Brakes with the Kill Switch? I always go the 70k trip to BMW in Launceston. Its worth it and they are not badly priced. Always giving me a latter bike to tempt me? Enjoy. BIG Jim. :D
