Camera

Cracking video :thumb2
I read earlier that the software you used was by apple - does it work on non-apple machines and/or is there a similar package that would work on a non-apple pc?

Also, I may have missed it but what camera did you use for the video footage - its crystal clear

The main filming was done with a Panasonic camcorder HDC SD-100, it is a small palmcorder that records onto SD cards, there is no internal memory, it is solidstate so no moving parts to go wrong on a trip. No longer available but the current top end sd recording cameras are all good. Costs about £700.

The on board stuff was filmed using a VIO POV 1.5, which again is solidstate recording to SD card, costs around £500.

Cheers D.

The Final Cut software would not work on PC, there is a lot of editing software for PC, Sony do one called "Vegas" which I have heard is good. Like all this stuff they take a while to get into and workout.

Yep I know...Norway on my wish list for next summer, too much happening this year :tears
Not everyone knows this, so I’ll post it up as a ‘heads up’ If you just want to do Norway the easiest route might be the freight ferry from Immingham to Brevik, Norway with DFDF Tor Line (yes they do take the pubic and bikes) It’s not exactly cheap and the ferry times aren’t exactly convenient, but it cuts out a heap of time, miles and messing around, which probably makes it much cheaper in the end…

Quote:
Passengers on Freight Ships
Passengers, their cars and caravans are welcome on board our freight ships on AngloBridge (Immingham/Tilbury - Gothenburg v.v.), BalticBridge (Klaipeda - Copenhagen/Fredericia v.v.), BritanniaBridge (Immingham - Esbjerg v.v.), ElbeBridge (Immingham - Cuxhaven v.v.), EuroBridge (Ghent - Gothenburg/Brevik v.v.) and on NorBridge (Immingham - Norway v.v).

P.S. I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the waypoints!

Hello Darren,

I have lots of holiday video footage, could you make a nice film for me ?

:D

Darren, that video was bloody marvellous :clap:clap:clap

What impressed me most and held my interest was the huge variety of different camera angles and shots you used.

Makes me wish that i took more video but I tend to just take stills. Watching the video just makes it come alive and takes you right back so to speak, more so than stills. A group of us met on here and did some of Norway as part of a Baltic Tour a few yra back. Great riding................thanks for reminding me :thumb2

How long , roughly , did it take you to edit?

Rushy, Thanks for your question, firstly, I had to become familiar with all my footage which takes time depending on the amount you have. I filmed, uploaded and used it chronologically so it was already in some kind of order. Then I went looking for a soundtrack, I was looking for something with a variety of tempos too cover slow and fast cuts.
When I had found the music, I then used the music as a template to edit too. Actual time on the physical edit was about a week and half.

I hope that goes some way to give you an idea of time scale. D.

Darren that's an awesome video. My girlfriend is a visual effects producer (big hollywood stuff) and she was impressed by what you did. We plan to tour Norway in the next couple of years and it's got us both even more excited about the tour.

Congrats, you should be really proud of your effords.

Justin.

Yeah, just like to mirror those comments and add my compliments for the video work. From the bits I've done, I appreciate how much time and effort went into those 7-8 minutes. Even before that though, is the work that you have put into getting the raw material and, as commented on already, the variety of angles and multiple camera set-ups. You clearly had this well planned and it shows!

A treat to watch and an example of how well such ride videos can work

Congrats - it looks really well (both Norway and the video!)

Big Thank You.

Thanks for your comments guys. I was pleasantly surprised to read that someone in the industry thought it was worth watching. I literally have just started doing some freelance film making at the moment so that was nice to hear.
Thanks J.
V, your comment about planning is the key to the whole vid and you have to factor in the filming time element into your trip.
We now have all our bookings made for Iceland, we went through the options of ferry with your own bike, but 2/3 days at sea each end ate into our limited leave, so we thought of shipping and flying and the cost of shipping is about the same price as hiring so we have booked a fly hire holiday.
Our plan is to film the Iceland trip in a documentary style which will be a big step up for me and so we are doing a shot list and some kind of storyboard now to make sure we have the material we need. It will go up on my You Tube and Vimeo pages, so if you would like to catch it, subscribe to my you tube channel and it will land in your inbox.

awsome video.

Off to norway for 2 weeks riding and sightseeing with a good mate in May - cant wait now. 91 days to go:clap

Top class Daren, you would need to be with some sympathetic riding companions, who tolerate you stopping to organise those awesome vid shots.
Fabulous !:D

Crackin' Vid there..... must rate as one of the best i have seen...A1

Lucky for me it was a small group and they we're up for film making. It could have been a different story if they had no interest. The vid is getting a great response on You Tube, over 6,000 hits and 40 ratings, I'm chuffed. Roll on Iceland.
