The problem with home mechanics

i would do it up with whats in the tool kit - if you can't undo it by the side of the road - you're stuffed anyway.

check the torque you can get onto the bolt with the toolkit spanner/socket and use that as a baseline.

remember - it'll get harder to undo with time/heat/corrosion.
if you're really paranoid - put some paint dabs on the bolts and keep checking.

Torque settings are for people that don't know what 'tight enough' is !

read somewher that NASA did some tests and found their fitters were more accurate than the torque wrenches.
