anyone moved by this thread to climb the Reek, should start from the South side ( approach from Leenane). The traditional start on the North side has been affected by the destructive interests of tourism.

As long as you end up in ma'am cross for loads of tae and toasted ham n cheese all is grand with my world.

How many times has anyone climbed it?
I have climbed Croagh Patrick 3 times.(Not for religious reasons.)
Reckon it is one of the best climbs/strolls in Ireland.
Climbed it first when I was 36, came down in 18 mins to car park.
Next when I was 42, and took 22 mins to come down.
Last when I was 57, but had a heart attack in between times, so took 40 mins to come down.
Reckon a good fell runner coud do it in around 12 mins. Any takers?

One of my favourites, both for the scenery & the blast. The Bridge to Leenane is almost as good as Leenane to the Bridge 
(try it behind Johnny Pan sometime 
) And, while not as stupid quick, the road to L.Nafooey is a cracker too. Did a lot of that (Aghagower to Cregg to the Bridge & eastwards) last Sunday in appalling weather but I still love it
