Well, I knew it was only a matter of time but, today, as I left the garage, I had a catastrophic head light failure.:mad:
I am now awaiting recovery to get it replaced and, as it is only 6 months old and 8,000 miles, be rejecting the bike under the sales of goods act.:ronno

Carry spares, my 42k 08 plate has done 4 main and and 2 daytime riding lights.
Fitting the replacements is about as awkward as they could make it. :(

8000 miles and only one lamp failure is pretty good. on third dipped beam lamp in 12000. as the man said carry spare lamps.i always carry two.

How unreliable are these new fangled 1200gs's?

I suggest you sue BMW for compensation. It's hardly a "round the world" bike if you can't see in the dark now is it?

It is if you travel around the world at the same speed as the sun and remain in the light all the time:D

Good luck with that project. I reckon you have more chance of a 3sum with Jordan and Kate Middleton:D

I think that it depends on what canbus fluid you are using - you are using fully synthetic canbus fluid I assume ;)

I fitted this to mine as I was having a few issues with the CanBus fluid, it kept circulating the wrong way and blocking the oggle oggle box.

All piss taking apart, what was the catastrophic failure?, was it just bulbs, or something more sinister?

After changing the bulbs in mine for a spare set of Osram Nightbreakers I had left over on a group buy from another forum I can see how it's a bit awkward. I had to summon by vietnamese midget that the wife keeps under the stairs for chimney sweeping and drain unblocking, as his hands where the only ones that would fit.

IT was the Bulb, I am awaiting a recall on from the dealer on my main beam in case of manufacture issues, probably yet another little bit of China in our Teutonic Chelsea tractor!!!:blast

As for changing it, well, to be honest, I'm a fat bloke and it took me longer to get the bulb out of its poxy packaging than it dod to fit it!!:D:D

As for comments about Canbus fluid, I use a Gell in mine:thumb

smaller hands would be an advantage fitting them I grant you......:augie

I struggled changing mine so to be fair, I did enlist the help of my 10 year old son who loves a bit of spannering. Maybe I could loan him out LOL.
