Think I've trashed it this time - TT2

Read a bit about this on another page but....... I plugged the wrong charger into my TT2 - screen on, screen off.....its dead. Had the paddles out, tried to blow some life into, swore at it (a lot) but it seems to no avail... I think I may have killed it. I have been sorely tempted in the past to give it a 9mm sleeping pill but stood by it - now, I reckon its dead.

Question, have I rogered the battery and a simple (sure it is) battery change is going to solve the problem (already tried the "soft reeboot") or, have I shagged the motherboard or whatever its called completely and the fat lady is singing her heart out?

Off to the Dolomites again in June and given TT's track record for fixing things, thought I might start the process early!

Buy a spare battery, swap them around and try it, if that doesn't work flog the TT unit on eBay for spares, loads of people need screens

Got to agree mate, did a bit of trawling and found replacement batteries readily available at little cost. Not sure what's involved in swapping out a battery but I'm sure a technician of your calibre could sort it

If it doesn't work nowt's lost. Well nowt if you don't count the TTR

On a serious note, what will you use for ski-ing if you've blutered your sat-nav?

It depends on how wrong the charger you used was.

If it was excess voltage then, you may have blown a regulator, diode, resistor, or all of these on the input of the charger socket. If it was incorrect polarity, you may well have done the same as above but also damaged some of the more complex electronics namely: the processors and display. The batteries should be able to take a limited overvoltage without blowing the cell: try measuring its voltage across its terminal connnectors.

There should be some protection against this and could be worth giving it to an electronics engineer to evaluate. It shouldn't take long with a multimeter, magnifying glass, and google (for the component spec's).

I'm thinking of getting a TT2 myself.

Firstly thanks for taking the time to reply to my distress flare. Apologies for not responding before now but time and travel got in the way. I guess i will take the general advice and get some spanner out, hack the back off and have a look see - and check the electrics as suggested.

Thanks again, appreciate the feedback. Personally, i think that the TTR2 is an excellent bit of kit and works well until you interfere with it!
