My 2610 has started to have a mind of its own. Switch on and start to navigate a route or just use as a moving map it works fine, for about 30mins. It then decides to act as if you have tried to alter the scale to zoom in/out. Touching the Black arrow icon top left has no effect, nor does actually trying change the scale. Turn off Gps and then turn on again, 50% of the time it displays the normal map view, the other 50% the screen goes back to the change scale screen. I have had the Gps switched on indoors in use indoors mode and by a window in normal mode and it still does it.

Anyone got any ideas? Garmin do not want to know/help as it is 'no longer supported'

A 2610 still working and without (I presume) a delaminated screen!

Gotta be a collectors item.

ISTR that the remote control sensor was too sensitive on the 2610, have you tried covering it up. Not sure if you can disable it in the menus :nenau Can't on my 2720 but then I've never had problems (maybe they fixed the issue on the later model).

1) Which version of the firmware is it running? If it's not V4.8, upgrade it. You can get it from here - http://tramsoft.ch/gps/garmin_streetpilot-2610-firmware-upgrades_en.html Then do a hard reset after backing up any personal data

2) If it is already on V4.8, backup your data and do a hard reset.

Ok How do I do a Hard reset? manual does not say how to do it. I am running on V4.2 so need V4.8.

Screen has sort of delaminated, it went all flakey which I cleaned off and then put a self adhesive screen protector on .

Yes, you can disable the remote on the menu.

Menu - Options - Menu - Enable/Disable remote :thumb ( the second menu press catches people out :D)

hi interested in this topic as my 2610 does get erratic from time to time, (and its one of those rare beasts with intact screen!) so worth looking after.
so "back up" .... I am guessing this means uploading in mapsource all the routes tracks waypoints and maps stored in the 2610 into a file??
(yes a dummy user!)

I don't think a hard reset on a 2610 would delete the maps - especially if you were to remove the CF card prior to doing it......:thumb

Yes to the rest.

thanks thats very helpful
and remove the cf card too, forgot about that:blast

Before doing anything, it's worth cleaning the screen carefully as any foreign object stuck to it can send it mad. It's like your finger constantly touching part of the screen.

Just had what, hopefully, appears to be this issue with my 2720. Stripped the thing down and cleaned the screen, bezel and rubber gasket. All seemed to work properly in the car last weekend over a couple of hundred miles. First trip on the bike on Tuesday so hoping that it won't be going mental as it did the last time.

Have heard that it's possible to clear this by carefully using a toothbrush around the edge of the screen but I thought better of that and took mine to bits. That method might just drive any bit of grit further under the gasket and I like taking things to pieces anyway :D

well, did a hard reset of my 2610 and have now used it extensively when driving back and forth to and thru the alps.......using routes created beforehand and yippee, no more dodgy switching from normal screen to "re - scale" screen.....in over 48 hours of running time...

now thats what I call a good result...this forum really does rock:clap:clap
