Greetings all, I am going to upgrade my 02 fazer 600 in the next few months and wondered if you could give me any ideas on what to look for, be ie adventure or standard. Will have about £3-4000 plus my bike to spend.

Is it best to go to a dealer or this site or check out the press. All comments appreciated.

Have been told that Triumph tiger's are good, but fancy the GS as it looks comfier and more robust.

Cheers

Jez

Jez,

The main difference between the standard GS and the ADV model is the height, the ADV having longer travel suspension which makes it taller. Longer legs are required to ride this one. There are a number of other differences, but I won't go into them at this stage.

Best thing you can do is to get a ride on both bikes to see which suits you best. I would also suggest trying out the Tiger as well. Triumph dealers do have them as demo bikes so it shouldn't be a problem getting a ride on one.

I'm in a similar position except have an Africa Twin at the moment. Torn between 1100GS, 1150GS and the Adventure (not interested in the Tiger though, don't like the shape) - all seem to have their advantages and disadvantages.

I'm going to visit my local dealer for comparative test rides and see what they come up with.

At the moment head (and wallet) says 1150GS, heart says Adventure. Don't want to buy a GS and 12 months down the line wish I'd bought an Adventure, it's just finding one to buy

The price the dealers offered for my Fazer was really stupid, they don't want them, best bet, sell the Fazer private then lok for a good deal, I've got the standard 1150GS and is great, do still ride the Fazer but is like getting on a scooter. But don't miss it one bit.

Yep, I think they'd just snigger at my Africa Twin. I'll go with a cash deposit and sell it privately as you suggest Snooky.

Hanging onto it long term isn't an option (I won't ride it) but selling it later in the year, when (if!!) the weather's better means I should get a better price.

Jez just bought an 04 GS ADV myself and absolutely love it. Thought about tiger but did not even test ride because have had a Triumph previously and did not like the build quality or chaindrive. Nothing wrong with private deals as long as you are very careful but I bought mine from a dealer preferring the security having been bitten by private sales in the past. Buy a GS ADV or standard and you wont regret it.

I was in a similar position but decided to go for it and buy the ADV, like you I did not want to regret it later. The ADV`s are selling like hotcakes used and new. I was bloody lucky I found one at my local dealer, right colour, spec, price. Had to be an instant decision or would have lost it. Just go for it you wont regret it.

Thanks for that Macp. I'm just working up the courage to spend 8k on a bike. The most I've ever spent so far is 2k (stingy or what!) - still, you only live once! (unless all that reincarnation stuff is true).

Yep I can understand that but you get one hell of a lot of machine for 8 big ones. Usually if I want something and I have the means by which to do it I just go and get it. Its only money mate.:D
