Thinking of swapping the XR for a GS !!

To be fair, you did warn him and correctly so

New BMW's aren't worth a shite (I was eyeing up a nice used R12 G/S today and thinking about it, but stories like this really put you off new BMW's)
The 12 G/S is the only modern BMW I like the look of . But it’s a non starter for me as I don’t have a local dealer so wouldn’t trust it , judging by all the issues with modern BMWs. Plus it’s way over priced .
My Vstrom 800 with luggage, heated grips, cruise and Fuel exhaust has cost me under £10k.

You’re right
This ‘used’ (albeit lightly) is priced at £13k, for a 12 G/S and that’s still more than your Suzuki was new and the 800 DE is more versatile perhaps

It Really was Martin, to say pissed off was putting it lightly, they are collecting it this morning !! the tiger 1200 does look fantastic to be honest, from passed experience the KTM is out the best bike for going fast was the XR without doubt but it seemed to be a one trick pony going fast till i took it the 180 mile trip to trade it in then I got it and started to really feel it !!
They seem very good at Marshals so ill give them 2 days with it then if its not sorted Ill ask for the XR and the money back see what happens the GS is deffo more comfi but I really did not find the XR any different that was lovely
Best bike that I should have kept Africa Twin 1100 Adventure Sport !! Rock solid bike that did it all just not as quickly !!

Keep you posted hopefully is was not me fitting my bits on the GS thats dislodged a plug or something LOL wont I look the cock !!

How about new 1390 AMT ? Bike Mag have just tested it against the GS and AT and it came out top, same as in MCN test.
I’ve added it to the auto bike group test thread here

I’d say that’s speculative bollox
Course you would.
The 790 cam debacle, the massive number of 1290 MCT failures, the bikes returned unrepaired with electronic issues, parts not available, customers having to contact KTM UK as dealers have not been able to provide solutions etc etc.
There is no question KTM used their customers as Beta testers for most of their new electronics but massively failed to provide support whilst doing so.

The 790 debacle where 0.5% of bikes were affected .
KTMs problem was not facing the issue early on and it was blown out of proportion by social media .
And BMW have been using their customers as beta testers for years and the bikes are still very unreliable . Just look at how many on here have had issues with 1300s with battery issues and numerous TFT error warnings . Such as post 1 on this thread on Adventure Boy’s first ride on his new bike, FFS !
Yet they still charge £5k more for an inferior product . That would buy you a nice Himalayan 450 which won’t leave you stranded a few hours after leaving the dealer 😜

Have to say after my riding buddy was left in Spain and then France on his 790 after 2 major clutch failures and being made to pay for both, first one only with 900 miles on the clock and KTM would not admit that there was a problem with the clutch basket oil ways, and 3 months in the dealership arguing the toss, that was enough for me with KTM. Although ive had a fair few I just did not fancy the agro of all that !! then bought a 1300GS LOL

I think you’re right about modern KTM ownership, but what would I know I’ve only owned every KTM except the Superduke GT.

I think having a local dealer plays hugely to ownership, having lost our local dealership, it’s a massive inconvenience especially for any warranty related issue or servicing, I’ve got a 1250gs with 650 miles I don’t use and I’m going to sell it because it’s a full day travelling just to have it serviced now we don’t have local dealer.

agree, my BMW dealer is more than helpful with my ongoing issues. but i'd rather only visit my dealer for servicing!!

Derbyshire can’t be that far away from one in the Midlands or Rotherham

Im south of Derby 15 mins away from piddy’s, it was very convenient and one of the reasons I purchased bm stuff, now I’ve got to travel to Rotherham or Wolverhampton.
