Third Year Warranty Extension. Price drop?

I got my letter a couple of weeks ago, my warranty ends on the 23rd March, they want £495. I decided to leave it and save the cash and if I didn't need it I would still have the cash.
Is this new offer the same BM cover but just reduced price?, if it is I will give 'um a bell and see if the will offer that to me, I might take them up on it.

£495 for 1 years warranty!!!!
Cant you lot see BMW are taking the p~~ out of you all.
Sharpen up you lot...please.........:blast....

Dont compare the bike company with the car company.
They are run totally different.
BMW know they cant bullshit and get away with offering a crap service and products to car owners.
The crafty Germans.................:oonyack

Cheers for that, I didn't realise :blast:augie

Hi y'all,

Just come back from then US where I went along to Daytona during 'Bike Week' and visited the local BM dealer there. Picked up a brochure and found that they give a 3yr warranty on the BM bikes over there. If BM is a Global company, why the difference compared to the 2 provided in Europe?

BMW tekky - shut up!

Does this guy just whinge or does he sometimes put in a valid comment.

If he thinks that BMW bikes and the manufacturers are so bad then surley he should buy something else.

Nobody sensible believes that these bikes are fabulous in every way but there is something special about them that makes us love them - for mew the switchgear is pants but I grin every time I reide the bike. My point is I've yet to see a single positive comment!

as for warranty periods - If we follow his example than we'd all buy KIA ceeds with a 5 year (or is it 6) 100000 mile warranty. Personally wouldn't be seen dead in one - life is about choice - BMW Tekky - make yours!

I did make my choice and look what I ended up buying into.
Kia Ceeds dont have to have £300-£400 repairs every few thousand miles either!!
And yes as soon as the warranty cover is up, it will be long gone.
If BMW built their bikes like all the Jap bikes I have owned over the last 30 years then I wouldnt have any cause to WHINGE!.:blast

...sell yours and buy a Honda Varadero. You'll be happy as a pig in shit and we don't have to listen to you.

What have you had go wrong that's cost you £300-£400 every few thousand anyway?

Nope, I will probably go Orange which I should have done in the first place but I got took in by all the BMW hype and salesman bullshit.
The two long way round wimps didnt help matters much either.
I and many others have been conned.
BMW ought to rename themselves DHM... the "Dandy highwaymen motorcycle company".
At the main dealers desk they should have a sign over the top saying..."Stand and deliver"

Say that to me when your bike is in being totally stripped down having your seals replaced. "Oh and by the way sir the leaking oil has contaminated your clutch so that will be another £350, but as a good will gesture we will do your seals and clutch for £700. There has does that sound sir"

Their PR and Corporate image aint gonna help you then is it..:blast

KTM are great machines, you won't go too far wrong - I intend to get one myself. Sounds as though you fell hook line and sinker for the BMW advertising machine - but you've only yourself to blame, who believes advertising anyway??

Now it seems you're flipping to the other extreme and trawling through internet forums and assuming that every fault that has ever happened to a 1200GS is going to happen to yours.

Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle ground i.e. not as good as BMW would lead you to believe, but not as bad as the sum of the faults discussed in this forum??

For the record I think GS's are overpriced heaps of agricultural junk that cost a fortune to buy, maintain and buy (mandatory:D) bling for...............won't stop me owning them for years to come (unless they get rid of the boxer engine, but that's another story)

Monkey, its refreshing to speak to someone in this forum that hasnt got their head stuck up their BMW a***.
Its a shame because like you say, the Boxer engine is absolutely bulletproof.
You only have to look on this forum...I dont think there are hardly any posts reporting any faults to do with the Boxer.
Trouble is my local KTM dealer is only a small family run concern that wont be able to do any complex part exchange deals etc. (I still have finance).
And yes , I admit, I have been taken in by the advertising. Well done BMW, youve had me hook line and sinker.!:clap

If you enjoy riding the bike, my advice would be to ride it until the warranty runs out. You will not have any problems with BMW repairing things under warranty and you'll be left with a bike that's almost as good as new at 2yrs (if you have the corroded things replaced :)). You'll get descend trade in against a KTM and by then be able to pick up a RC8 engined KTM adventure which may be a GS beater, if the GS has departed from the boxer format.

I also think you'll also be surprised at the number of GS owners that despise BMW, but still love their GS's.........

This has happened to you on your brand new bike?
