I’ll get some pics of a 1200 one tomorrow that shat it’s pinion bearing
I’m not looking to getting into scaremongering,Stand by for another sector of the forum fretting!
Seriously though it's only through sharing this info that we learn our various bikes' likely maintenance requirements and can elect to take preventative action. Good stuff.![]()
Indeed,it starts to get a bit pricey,In the process of building up a spare final drive for my 1999 r1150gs , I have a nos casing that I bought 12 years ago a full set of internals from an undamaged final drive that did 20,000 miles.
Will now be doing the pillion input bearing and the input seal, the bearings on both side of the crown wheel along with the seals, although a bit shocked at the parts prices compared with when I had rebuilds done on my last 1150.

Same here, Neil, but without having to build it… I’ve spent 22yrs building up a stock of spare parts for my 2000 model and have a spare, fully built, final drive and a spare low mileage gearbox. I’ve also got a couple of fuel tanks, a set of standard wheels, seats, a few screens, 2 pairs of handlebars, a fork slider, a pair of cylinder heads, a pair of throttle bodies, various exhausts and a selection of pannier parts. I just can’t resist a bargain…![]()
Would one of them be Mandarin by any chance - and for sale? (not sunny yellow)
