This has made me miss my 1150GS

I doubt there are many people who owned an oil head and don't look back on it fondly.

I too had a Tesco bike. The best part was the long E top gear - 4,000 revs at 80 mph, perfect.

Why did everyone sell then?
The lure of a promise of something better ….that turned out to be a bit of a let down ?
Everytime I ride a 1200 GS TwinCam (been using a mates, once or twice a month this summer for 100 mile round trips) I think it’s no better to ride (yes, more HP and better brakes) and the 1200’s fit & finish is worse and I am always glad to get back to his place and ride my own 1150’s home again

Following a chat with JohnnyBoxer at Leenane I replaced the front suspension (thanks Lukas) and serviced the rear and that along with a Sergeant seat from Brodie13 has made the bike even more enjoyable, now on 103,000 miles.

I also did the 1150-1200-1150 route. My current bike is a silver Gs that was accurately described by the lad I bought it from as ‘mechanically sound, cosmetically challenged’

Over the winter it’s getting a full immaculate blue & white body kit and powder coated alloy wheels. I’m looking forward to seeing the transformation.

Good news
More enjoyable now too

37,500 miles on my pampered 2002 garage queen! IMG_2783.jpegIMG_2782.jpeg

Ive owned three 1150s, the best being a 2002 Adv with standard tank and lower suspension from standard. I’d consider one again once the insurance is sorted but my 2011 TC was a better bike

Not going for another Norden ???
I am surprised

One of my Adv’s has standard GS height Ohlins

I think it rides better with a lower CofG

I bought the Norden for a very good price. I doubt any pay out will cover a like for like replacement

That’s a real bummer
I know where there’s a pre reg standard Norden zero miles (cancelled order) with heated grips, for just over £11000 & I guess they may take less than £11k after Christmas

Mine had OE heated grips, seat, rally mode enabled, sat nav mount etc. Very annoying

I keep looking at R100GS PD too. No idea if it’ll be a shock changing to one

It’s dreadful as you never get the real value
Any news yet?

It'll certainly be different. When you move 'backwards' you're getting older technology of course and the bike's component parts are by definition older and will have had more years to suffer (perished seals and whatever else afflicts older bikes). I was used to the clattery nature of the airhead engine so expected that, but I did notice that the airhead gearbox was very agricultural and notchy compared to an oilhead. May have just been this particular bike of course.

So different, yes. Shock, no. They're like your kids, they're all beautiful in their own special way!! :D :D
