This has made me miss my 1150GS

Excuse my Ignorance..... but what is a Norden?

Nice....Iv'e just checked and i bought mine in 2007 and can,t sell it as we have done so much together......155k. Now the 1200LC i bought is up to 64k and going strong but does not have the engine breaking nor stopping power the 1150 had! Yes its quicker and lighter with all the gadgets etc.....But i miss the 1150........ Simples.....

I went down the r1150gs route for 9 plus years then a new 2011 r1200gsa, a 2014 r1200gsa lc te , 2018 r1200gsa lc basic and now own a 2021 model r1250gsa basic , in the meantime I have owned other bikes at the same time including an f800gsa te, tdm 900 and others but still went back and bought another early r1150gs late last year as it is just such a relaxing fun plaything

What’s that front mudguard you have on there Paul ?

The holy grail of mudguards if you e done the 17inch wheel conversion. Good luck finding one.
You’re not wrong Gedjack… Back in the day, these were rare and expensive as they were specially made for the 17” conversion on a GS. The only place I remember them being sold were some of the German accessory sites like Hornig.de
A fellow Tosser did a mold from one and had more made up a few years ago, but they didn’t sell very well and nobody has done anything similar since then. The Ilmberger carbon rear hugger was even more expensive at around €280, but I spotted both of them on eBay,de for €25 each (quite a few years ago).

Yeah I tried Hornig with no luck. It just finishes the look off.

I'm even worse than you lot as I sold 1150s for BM but never owner one... I started with BMs on an 1100GS and have been back to one again and again...🙄 I have had an 1150RT that was great but overall the 11GS just keeps reminding me of its sheer functionality in a very Germanic way...

The 1150s are "better" in so many ways... Better Motronic, 6th gear, possibly styling but even though I thought the OD was better, I prefer the 5 gear setup... JBs low 1st normal 6th is my favourite 1150 setup and an ADV with that could draw me in but at the moment not enough... There are some great spec, great priced 1150s around at the mo and they are certainly great looking value...

I have tried all other types of bikes including hexhead and LC Rats but the setup and character didn't keep me loyal...

I've also had airheads and for me it was definitely a backwards step... I have a big soft spot for Rs and RTs and still fancy an RT Classic as I love the BM pure functionality of the fairings... I found the longer distance pleasure of an Airhead to be hard work and BM really stepped up with the riding standards of the Oilhead range... The telelever set up really makes a difference for me and I still don't feel happier on anything else I've tried...

Agree with that
Oil heads for me, are much more a ‘rider’s bike’ than airheads
When I bought a new 1100GS in 1997 - they gave a still (just about) current R100R classic as a loaner
Having been riding Jap bikes (VFR 750/CBR 600 etc) and Hinckley Triumphs ….I thought WTF is this BMW’s offering, I thought it was something from the 1960’s and couldn’t believe it was a 1996/7 made bike
It was awful, truly awful

Yep
Loved the power delivery & gear ratios on my 1100 GS
Slightly disappointed when I bought my first 1150 in 2000 with the overdrive E, top gear
Much prefer the Adv models with low first and normal (not overdrive 6th) gear ratios as they were closer to the 1100 GS

Your bang on JB... I was a BMW disser until I was challenged by a fellow bike instructor the try one... A GS was the only BM with any cred in it's freaky 1100 form and even then I wasn't taken but up for the challenge... I'd reached the end of interest in Japanese sports bikes and sports tourers and had a really back back prob... A GS grew and grew on me... I'd had a quick go on an Airhead and it was retro tech already...
Your ADV with 6 gear low 1st was like the natural development of the 5 speed... The ADV was a natural successor to the 11 as it felt more supple out of the box...👍

ps... I bought an 11 Pan many years later after avoiding them due to other serious Pan owners always banging on about them in the 90s...👍😂 If I'd had the same sceptical start that grew with the ST11 then I may have not tried a GS and missed out on BMs...

20240104_153044.jpgWell unfortunately I haven't had time to play with the 11fiddly and as we are on flood alert I've had to shift some bikes around ! Thought this would be good company in my unit for the 11Fiddly.

Why did everyone sell then?
The lure of a promise of something better ….that turned out to be a bit of a let down ?
Everytime I ride a 1200 GS TwinCam (been using a mates, once or twice a month this summer for 100 mile round trips) I think it’s no better to ride (yes, more HP and better brakes) and the 1200’s fit & finish is worse and I am always glad to get back to his place and ride my own 1150’s home again
My lure was in 2007 a 1200ADV, after a couple of bikes since then I just added a 1999 1150GS, only because I couldn't find a 1100GS!
