Evening,

Currently considering moving on my 1150GSA with a view to 'going orange'. I've done a fair bit of online research albeit that I haven't ridden any yet but wondered what the general thought was of real world ownership (past the sales blurb) between a 990 Adv like this:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/ktm-motor...adventure-2012.-5kmls.-immaculate-/1147832944

And a 1190 Adv R.

I appreciate that they are very different machines in terms of electronics and wouldn't be buying a new one but noticed that there seems to be about a £2.5-3k difference between later 990's and the lowest priced 1190r's.

If the thought is for the money, that a 990 is the way to go, are the later ones (post 2010?) the ones to look out for?

Any thoughts, much appreciated.

I swapped a 2004 1200GS for an 1190 adventure in grey last year... I went for the more road biased one as I do zero off-roading apart from campsites.

Having taken it down to Monaco and back last year via the RDGA and the Route Napoleon I have to say I absolutely love it. I wanted a bit more punch than my GS was giving me, and having test ridden a new LC GS I didn't get off it feeling that I had to have one which was disappointing.

The KTM feels lighter, handles beautifully and has more than enough oomph for most people I'd wager. The electronic suspension worked well, and coming up the route napoleon in sport mode you could feel the difference in the suspension stiffness and throttle response.

Overall I've been extremely chuffed with the bike.

Having said that that 990 looks like a bargain at that price and it always gets rave reviews on adventure rider from the inmates on there...

Well things moved on apace and due to a good amount of luck, I've picked up a fully loaded Adv R for a great price as well as selling my bike so the future is orange!

You can hold hands with the other poofs now !

Seriously congratulations they are a good bike and I was nearly seduced myself once but then Giles put me off just because he bought one

Hi Green Boy.
I regret selling my 990 as my Lc ADV (whilst being brilliant in many ways) just doesn't give me the thrills the 990 did.
990 MPG was poor, but I guess I was using it more for back lane fun rather than steady touring/commuting.
I think from a selfish point of view, for fun I'd have a 990 and for touring most definately the ADV.
Sorry I can't offer any input re the 1190.
