Thoughts please

Feckin BMW stick coils are massively expensive compared to say a zx10 stick coils, they even look similar. Thought there was a guy on eBay selling the beru ones for 70 squid, but can't see them now :blast

I wish someone could come up with a sensible alternative, never needed twin spark, the old single sparks worked fine!

I think I'll look at having the tank apart, replace the filter and pipe work throughout just to make sure it's 100%. For the sake of a few quid it'll be worth it.

I'll also conduct the disconnect test tomorrow and see if one of the stick coils has died.

Bastard complications! The mind feck is that the bike actually runs pretty well, I just know it's not quite right and if I'm on my Spain trip this year I do not want any hassle.

If you measure the volume of fuel returning to the tank at idle, you don't need to pull the tank unless it's bad. The spec is about 2 liters per minute.

Sorry, not quite with that :nenau

It might show the pump and/or the pressure regulator efficacy , but in no way will that show up ballooning pipes at the highest flow rates, or a dodgy coil stick at idle where the secondary plug is taking care of the ignition of all of the fuel quite effectively.

I think I'll replace the fuel pipe and quick connectors when I do the fuel filter. Is there any better alternative to the U bend for 20 odd quid (without doing the external fuel filter mod) ?

Of course it has nothing to do with the stick coils.

But on an Oilhead the pump is always running at maximum capacity. If you measure the flow in the RETURN line: the pump has had to build the pressure to open the regulator and at 2 liters per minute is outputting its maximum volume which is ~120 liters per hour. That means pump, filter, strainer and hoses are good. So it will show leaking in-tank hoses or clogged filters. It's a lot better than needlessly opening the tank.
