Went to start the bike this morning and it appears the throttle cable has snapped. Started the bike as normal, but it cut out. this has happened a couple of times over the last few days. I went to give it a bit of throttle as I've previously done and there was a lot of risistance when I tried to turn the throttle. As the throttle moved I heard a snap and then there was no resistance at all. Pushed the starter and the bike started and revved really high for about a second before I turned off the ignition.

Just awaiting Carole Nash to pick up bike and take to local BMW dealer so they can sort it.

Anyone else had this happen?:(

Yours is the first case I've heard of a broken cable.

It could be where the throttle cable splits into two in the 'splitter box' beneath the fuel tank?

That did cross my mind but there is a strange grating noise when I operate the throttle. Just had the breakdown company ring to say the recovery truck had broke down! 2 hours now since I rang in but they should be here soon. Gonna ring the dealer now to let them know bike is on the way and get their opinion on it.

It turns out it was just frozen up due to the slight cold spell we've had. (-9). There is a serious kink in the cable near the ignition barrel which appears to be damage to the inside of the outer cable. Gonna change it just to be on the safe side. Funnily enough, this was mentioned as an advisory on my last M.O.T.:bounce1

... to congratulate you on using such an appropriate username :augie Why do you think they call them advisory :nenau

Advisory means you might need to get that done at some point. OK, OK, you got me! In my defence, the throttle has been operating ok up until this morning. I'm just relieved that's all that was wrong. When dealer got bike started he started mentioning primary coils. That sounded expensive:eek:
