chaps i need some help. 101 needs a new throttle, the item currently fitted has the cables coming out of the front and dangling about. What i want to fit is a Motox type where the throttle runs inboard along the bars thus keeping it out of danger. The problem i'm having is finding a throttle that does this and excepts the two cables. so far i've found single cable and push/pull one only. The other option is to run a single cable type then have a splitter lower down but again i'm not sure how available they are and if they are reliable.
so guy get your thinking caps on.:aidan

i've thought about it, and concluded you should leave the original set up as is.

what sort of danger were you expecting them to encounter?

route them carefully? carry a spare? :nenau

can't do.

they dangle out under the bars and no matter how i try to route them they are exposed. My issue is if i'm out on the trail they may get snagged on a branch or something which would no doubt end in some form of crash. Now let it not be said i'm afraid of a little "OFF" but with something as big as this old girl i know it will end in tears.

Si, I thought you wanted to have this as original, I dont know but I imagin they used the standard type cables and twistgrip. Cables go over the bars and behind the headstock ie. completely out of the way of any overhanging branches, over zealous kangeroos or over complicated solutions.:rob

Methinks the Venhill is a push-pull as fitted to Hondas XL singles and the XT 500 etc and not a twin "Puller".

your right but

the item on the bike at present won't alow this. the cables run sraight out and down. the pul/pul type i'm after turns 90degrees left as it leaves the body. i just can't find the right one at the mo.

Easy Peasy

I fitted this one, with some Venhill cables (Wreford now has a new spare cable) and Venhill could copy it for you

I ran a Domino Enduro throttle, with a fully enclosed rubber boot on a single cable to the splitter box and then out to both carbs.

Easy to do and much better than the crap OEM BMW Airhead set up

Neat set up

If you swap to the later throttle cable arrangement you will end up with a single cable going into a two way splitter unit. The single top cable should make it a lot easier to source an alternative throttle.

You need the 3rd item down here ---> http://www.motorworks.co.uk/bmw/pro...rtcode=PA&source_code=BA_15_20_PA_30&spPage=3
and then pick the lowers to match your carb size and then any of the 81-84 upper cables to suit your bar height.

Thanks guys

101 now has a nice new set of cables winging there way from tup norf. well helpful bunch those nice guys at motorworks, got myself a GS sump and alloy bashplate as well:thumb2 so now i can plan the odd off road excusion for later this year. Just got to sort out the seat height and the centre stand first.
WOW airhead ownership is fun, loads of tinkering to be done with mods gallore. Not like owning a 1200 where its all bolt on TT crap that you have to wait six months to get.:thumb
