So here's what's happened, ill give the full symptoms as it may help someone else one day

When we had that hot weather... well 3 days off it lol
i was riding in Dynamic mode as normal but the next morning at 6am going to work it was raining hard.
not wanting to be caught out on greasy roundabouts and being a tired wimp at 6am i pressed mode and selected RAIN
pulled in clutch.... nothing? still in Dynamic??
I tried this several times and nothing.

I've read this in the past its a clutch switch that's also used to shut off Cruise control.
Checked cruise control, working perfect... its not that?

Anyway before i know it im at work.
End of the day i get on the bike and press start.... bikes starts revving at 3500 revs wtf
once on the move it seemed to behave.
I tried the change mode thing again but this time i i forcibly rolled off the throttle... BINGO mode changed!

This morning i started the bike at 6am and woke all the neighbours with the 3500-4000 revs echoing round the back of the house!
again i forced the throttle shut, revs dropped to just above 1000 rpm

So question is what's the problem.... i've checked the cable at grip end all looks normal
i've checked the Barkbuster guards and end bars for restriction... although they have been on over a year, but seems ok.

without sounding like a total retard where does the other end of the cable go to, without stripping the bike into pieces lol

Aren't they a fly by wire throttle? Try doing a throttle position reset and see if that helps.

I tried the throttle sensor reset, even though i wasn't sure if it has one or not (2017 bike).
Didn't work anyway.

Have you got a GS-911 to read the TPS sensors, see if they are both reading correctly? Or to read for any EML codes?

Fly by wire,
Mode change is by button and wait it cycles automatically
Id say you have a failing throttle grip assembly, its quite common

No sadly not.

Well that's encouraging 😲
I am ringing BMW tomorrow to book the bike in for a service and MOT, i will mention this and let them deal with it.

I'd be disconnecting the battery, for a good hour or two and then trying a throttle reset on start.

After that get the BMW recovery tools out, namely the cc

BMW TPS Reset TPS reset routine:
1) Disconnect battery for about 30 seconds then reconnect (causes ECU to lose it's memory of Throttle Position Sensor).
2) Turn ignition to on but DO NOT start the engine.
3) Slowly wind the throttle fully open to fully shut, repeat this three times.
4) Turn off ignition. (ECU now stores TPS position data in memory).
5) Wait 5 seconds.
6) Turn on ignition again and start bike. Before doing this, I would check that the wiring to the TPS itself hasn't been kicked or disturbed, its the electrical unit on the air intake in front of your Left foot.

Can't help with the revving but you need to pull the clutch all the way in to the second limit switch to change the mode.

At handover my dealer told me to select whichever mode I wanted then roll the throttle fully forward to select it. Also roll the throttle fully forwards as a method to disengage cruise control.

I thought everyone must know that the fly-by-wire throttle can be wound back past zero to a minus (switch) position ??

I did not know this!! Always used the clutch or tapping the brake

IT WORKS!!

I find that the roll off fully method of disengaging cruise control feels a little harsh - at motorway speeds it feels like jamming on the brakes. If conditions permit, a slight acceleration to give the engine back to the throttle, then slide the cruise control switch off.
When changing modes, make the selection then quickly pull the clutch and the change is done.

Agreed it does seem aggressive doesn't it (especially when tapping the brake pedal), I would do like you but dip the clutch.

Well I rang William BMW Manchester.
they only have one mechanic and can fit me in on the 17th
Even worse, they no longer do MOTs on site and say they can arrange for another garage locally to do it?

So sadly my full BMW service history will end this year as i take it to a local mechanic for this throttle issue, service and MOT.

Its more of a "panic cut-off" in the same vein as using the brake or clutch where you can slam the throttle forwards rather than faffing with switchgear.

For smooth disengaging of cruise I also use your method of synchronising hand throttle then switching off.

Sorry did you say a BMW dealer cannot do MOTs on bikes anymore??

Oddly I’ve always found rolling the throttle forward to be the smoothest way of disengaging the cruise control

Yea surprising.

They cannot offer a loan bike on this occasion either.
Which means the wife will have to follow me down in her car, to drop off and again the day after to pick up, a 25 mile trip each way.
so that's 100 miles my wife has to do just for my bike service.

To be fair to the wife she hasn't commented or complained, but that's not the point.
