Throttle response LC

Sounds good, I am wondering what, if any, are the downsides - I will give Hilltop a call tomorrow, actually an email might be better, so that I have their reply in writing and can post it verbatim on here :) I would like to know both the upsides and downsides, whether or not it could affect my warranty etc ;)

Did you hear back from him?

If he's emailed Geoff it may take a while, and the response will be "phone me" :)

I didn't get chance to email today from work but I will do.

However I did speak to one our embedded software engineers, it is possible to set up many processors to be write only i.e you can overwrite the program and data but cannot normally read it back - we do this with many of our products so that we can make them field upgradeable and protect our code - BUT we almost always have a 'back door' into the system so that we can read back the data and program to see if it has been changed, there are also ways of seeing how many times it has been overwritten in some cases.

They also said that they would be very suprised if BMW hadn't got a method of seeing if a change had been made, for the obvious reason of checking engine warranty claims - the dealer may not normally be able to do this with their tools but BMW would be.

If you make a change and have an engine blow up and put in a warranty claim then if BMW were suspicious that a change had been made they almost certainly would be able to check.

At the end of the day you pays your money and makes your choice - I wouldn't do it whilst my bike was still under warranty but that is just my preference because the bike's performance is more than good enough for me as it is.

Yeah, I wonder whether he or not they are prepared to answers awkward question in writing - we shall see :)

As I said it would need some serious and expensive examination of the ECU and at the end of it all it is just the fuelling really which in reality is likely to be better for the engine as some bikes are dangerously lean

And that is exactly what Hilltop have said :)

Re the warranty, feck that, it's a motorbike FFS!

Almost as ludicrous as the 'residuals' bollox..............how anodyne biking seems to have become or maybe it's just a WBM thang :nenau

Grow some bollox, please! :)

.

I said that :)

Geoff is just old school in the way he communicates and I can't fault him for it. Im a 2 time happy customer and will get my WC done. I had my GSA done at 600 miles and did another 11 k before buying the WC.

I don't understand why some people seem to be on a bit of a witch hunt when it comes to Geoff and Hilltop. My GSA was on the dyno at 2 dyno days I organised for another forum I belong to and near as damn made the same power and torque it did post hilltop. Forgetting figures as that's just for willie banging , both my twin cams fuelled beautifully afterwards,

I know you did - I just like to understand these things for myself and want to know exactly what I would be letting myself in for so that I can make an informed decision instead of just having faith in the hype :) I am sure that Hilltop can make it feel sweeter in many ways but like all these things there are trade offs, what are they?

There are no trade offs all Geoff does is make the bike fuel and perform how BMW would intend if the emissions figures were not so stupidly stringent
If you see what the incredibly lean fuelling is like on a dyno and then think about all the downsides to that, valves burning etc you wouldn't think twice about it.

Or put another way
You arrive at your dealers for 6k service and he tells you your bike is running very very lean and is in danger of damaging valves what would you tell him to do

No witch hunt from me, as I'll probably get mine done.

Andres, people would be a bit daft not to be slightly concerned about their warranty, as I'm sure you would be, under all the bravado, if a hilltop remap fried your engine, and voided your warranty.

Do Hilltop offer a warranty on their work, which would cover you if BMW refused to pay out?

You have just said that emissions are a trade off - there is one for starters.

I doubt it very much, let's ask them?

FFS If that bothers you to the point of it being a downside buy a fucking Prius
I am fairly certain that my re mapped 1200 cc bike is a sod sight more environmentally friendly than my 3.0 diesel Landcruiser

It's a trade off all the same if the Hilltop remap causes an increase in emissions - did you think it was a good idea to remove lead from petrol?

N..............

Um, my £14k bike is 7 months into a 24 month warranty and has been remapped by Hilltop. No bravado here :nenau

Sorry, maybe I'm just old skooll but I genuinely don't get it. Bikes to me have never been about warranties, residuals etc etc. and if ever I do start worrying about all that stuff please shoot me :beerjug:

Life's toooooooooo short.
