Timberland Church.

The local stonemason leaves a dormouse embedded whenever he does work for someone, with the permission of the building's owner obvs. but while he was working at this church he thought the grave in the furthest corner looked to be in a lonely spot so added the rabbit so the lady buried there would have some company/someone looking over her.

Some of the people who have them go to town theming them at various times of the year. There's one near us that wears a tiny santa hat at Christmas and has a porch light that switches on at dusk. All good fun.

Wasn't there a furniture maker that used to carve a mouse into his ware? 🐀 Quite sought after I believe.

I like that they painted it rather than cover it with white paint like the rest of the building, but purple mice?

Mousey Thompson, the Mouse Man of Kilburn. Furniture maker from Kilburn, North Yorkshire. Worked only with English Oak, and every piece he made, he carved a mouse into it somewhere. Worked predominantly with Church furniture, pews, pulpits and the like but could turn out anything, dining tables, chairs, beds, wardrobes. Thompsons furniture is very sought after with older stuff commanding ridiculous prices, but it’s that or go on a waiting list, and still pay a fortune. I used to ride with his grandson.

Crikey those prices for gifts have gone up!

I gave my son and daughter in law a mouseman bowl I bought some years ago only last month.

Ampleforth Abbey is full of his works, too. 👍

Bill, if you fancy another wild goose run, could you do a photoshoot of Temple Bruer and Preceptory Tower a few miles to the south west of Timberland for us?
It’s a place I’ve been intending to visit for a few years out of pure curiosity but never gotten round to it. 👍
