Timberland Church.

Chichester cathedral has a small mouse carved onto the top of one of its pews ,

I cant remember the story behind it, it was a long time ago when i first visited it was explained to me ,

Our tour guide pointed out examples of his work in York Minster so it seems his work is nationwide 😎

I knew I had seen the Mouseman's work on Television, now I remember it was on the Salvage Hunters TV series with Tee n Drew Pritchard.

Bill, if you fancy another wild goose run, could you do a photoshoot of Temple Bruer and Preceptory Tower a few miles to the south west of Timberland for us?
It’s a place I’ve been intending to visit for a few years out of pure curiosity but never gotten round to it. 👍
I will indeed. It's a nice place with an interesting history.
There's been some development round it recently (very nice houses) so it doesn't stand alone any more.
I'm not sure whether I'll be able to access the tower, it was always open but during a recent visit to Crowland Abbey the guide there told me that The Templars taken control of Temple Bruer Tower again and locked it.
Crowland Abbey was an interesting place as well, it's reputed to be the burial place if Hereward The Wake but is also a place of Pilgramage for Greek Orthodox Church member who now have their own place of worship inside the bell tower.
The Templars also consider it to be an important place in their history.
I'm hoping to go back there in August as there's going to be a replica of The Turin Shroud on display; if I do go I'll try to get some snaps.

This is brilliant, I did a dive into some history when I lived in Lincs. King Henry IV was born in Bolingbroke Castle.

Then there was the Kingdom of Lindsey, my favourite period, Anglo-Saxon.

Thanks for posting. (y)

I'm so disappointed in all you other Tossers.... Chimp posts pictures to see if he can post pictures. Why has everyone just gone 'ahhhh isn't it pretty'? Time was when the first post would have been 'what pictures....' with a constant follow up of similar.

This place is going to the dogs.

As we're still umming and aaahing about a camper van/ caravan I decided to go to Torksey Caravans today to see what they have and how much things cost. The weather was nice and Sarah's eating out this evening which is all the excuse I need for a fried breakfast so I went via The Buzz Stop at Rand, it's actually a staff canteen that opens to the public and the food is very nice and good value for money.

£7.50 and it was as good as it looks.

I hadn't planned any stops but I'm a sucker for an old church and as I rode through the hamlet of Snarford I noticed that theirs was open.
It's a pretty unassuming place but I thought I'd stick my head in anyway....

Who would have thought that the most unassuming church in a quiet backwater would hold such treasures?

There was a useful information board nearby.

But......
Barely 4 miles away is the village of Saxby and as I meandered through I saw an unusual looking building so turned round and went back for a closer look.

The door was locked when I tried it but after a few minutes of looking round and taking snaps a lady from one if the houses nearby arrived with the key and let me in.
Apparently it was originally a mausoleum for the Earl of Scarborough and his family, the Saundersons but is now a church.

She tells me that the local farmer is renovating it in time for his son's wedding this September.
It looks like he has his work cut out.
