Time for a new project

Made a start today with the dry build. Just put everything together and see what didn't make it through the last 20 odd years. I'll also be able to see what needs repainting or refurbishing.

The total cost to date has been £105 for new bearings seals and shims when I rebuilt the gearbox. All the blasting and cleaning for the engine and gearbox was done at work saving a huge amount.

sooooo....

frame and sub-frame MUST go off to the powder coater's...:augie

Shame you don't live near me Rob.
I've got a tame powder coating firm :augie

Any colour as well........:thumb2

Frame and all other sundries for around £100 all in

Yep! It's going to get expensive.

I figure it's going to be between £1800 to £2000 by the time I've finished

Rob

you know the score mate..

restoring a bike..............

at least double your original estimate in pound notes

and

at least three times the time you thought it would take

:blast

been there done that! still keep coming back for more!

I prefer it because my powder coater does a finish that's very similar to the original BMW paint and it can be touched up using hammerite satin.

This is the finish on the last bike I rebuilt.

I've got a local guy I use Proff he does an excellent job :thumb2

yes

powder coat every time....

my local ( two minutes from work in Manchester) coater that does all my lightbars is a biker and is extre carefull with the bike stuff...

he even pops your bearings in/out when the frames still hot coming out of the baking oven..... f.o.c.

done a few restorations with 2pac paint jobs...

it is brittle and chips easy, and is a tw@t to put right if you get a run or orange peel etc. also downright not user/enviroment friendly

There's a full stainless system with the bike. The £2000 is for painting, powder coating and replacing missing/rusty parts.
