I have the rattle when the bike is slowing down ie on the over-run. I'm pretty sure it's the timing chain so I bought a cam tensioner kit from Mr bm

What I'm not sure about is which side. The rattle appears to come from the right pot (offside) but every online article about replacing the tensioner always shows the left one:confused:

Do the offside one's fail?

It's only the LHS (nearside) one that's the problem as the oil that is supposed to pressurise the tensioner can drain out of it,due to the design.
Saying that,it should only rattle when starting up from cold.
Are you using the correct 15/50 oil in the bike?.
Another source of rattles is the valve gear.Check the rocker end float (do a search on here) before you set valve clearances.
Good earplugs cure all sorts of BWM noises.:D
