Tiny hole in bevel drive What’s it for?

Just noticed a slight oil weep either from this tiny hole in my bevel drive or possibly the drain plug.
What is the function of this hole?
I can’t say I’ve really noticed it before even though I’ve had the bike for 40 years!

does this FD have the breather at the top? If not, as GG says, pressure relief. It is at about the fill point of the FD anyway.

It could just be there to weep oil out of.

It’s a drain,it goes up through the casing to the crownwheel seal.
The idea being if the seal fails ,the oil drains away without contaminating the brake shoes.
The reality is,it will be blocked solid with grease and brake dust.
Maybe yours is doing it’s job?

I’ll unblock it and have a good look at the seal and report back if it all makes sense.

Wheel off and Mikeyboy is right. The hole was not blocked and was doing it’s job.
The amount of oil was microscopic and no where near the brakes.
So something to keep an eye on then.
