I have just bought a 2021 GSA that came with a pair of TKC70’s.
I know they are an off/on road tyre, but was thinking, should I swap them for a purely road based tyre as I am not interested in off rode riding?
Or are they OK for just on-road use and last as long as full road tyres?

Thanks.

Yes they are. And they last more than enough.
The "rocks" version have a different rear tyre and, while still plenty grippy on asphalt, that one will last less than the standard TKC70 rear.

Albeit on an Africa Twin...but I've just worn out my 2nd set of TKC70s. A great tyre. Great grip, wet or dry

How is the wear rate compared to ‘standard’ road tyres?

I've got 7k out of each sets/ Front cupped, rear a bit squared but probably 1.5 to 2k left in them if I really wanted to push it

I put a set of TKC70s on an S10 they transformed the bike in a positive way

Whilst I've never used them on my GS I would say that they will be perfect for your bike, warm up quick and perform well in both wet and dry conditions

I've got about the same on the standard TKC70. Front cupped as well. They still had some miles in them, but the front was in pretty crap conditions.

Mine is an older 2007 GSA.

TKC70 is a decent road tyre but all-but useless off-road on anything other than the easiest gravel trails - I’ve had them a couple of times.

Wouldn’t pick them if I wanted a pure road tyre (they don’t even look that beefy) but if I bought a bike fitted with them I’d keep them until they were worn out and ride them with confidence.

Thanks for the comments. I will follow the advice given and keep them on until they or worn out…

Agree with all the above.

I'm running through my third set of TKC 70s. Very happy with them. Reliable and predictable behaviour on asphalt, they are slightly more directional that other 70/30 or 80/20 types of tyres on less compact terrain. They weren't great in a few meters of light sand

I used the first set across Europe, to Corsica on vacation, back to France, crossing into Italy on gravel and then a few days on swiss passes. Tyres were still in good conditions when back in London if slightly squared by the last motorway miles.

Later on at the end of their life the front tyre was in this sorry state:

but had more than enough miles out of them + shocks settings and pressures might have not helped...

Next set I put the TKC70 rocks while in Italy because I was planning to do some trails on the way back to the UK, but plans changed and traveled to the Dolomites and then back to London, all on asphalt. Had lots of fun, but the rear end lasted way less than their regular counterpart as stated above:

I don''t think that more than 4000 km in between the pics.

Again, good tyres IMHO.

I have recently replaced a rear TKC 70 got around 7k and I got a puncture, that could not be repaired, more of a slice really, there was about 3mm left when I had to change it. To me the tyre had no issues, I am not saying I lean to the standard of Rossi, but the chicken strips were down to a few mil, I ride a lot of windy roads and actually toured on these tyres, in lakes, Yorkshire dales, Scottish Borders and highlands including some of the NC and back through Northumberland. Had no issues with handling. I would have bought another one but I couldn’t get it at short notice so I bought TA3 which I like a lot as I’ve tried these before
