Hi,

Could anyone who's used TKC80s on the rear of their 650 let me know how many miles I can expect to get out of this tyre?

Specifically it's for a G650XCh for a trip roughly 50/50 tarmac/dirt.

Thanks,

Ian.

A rear Karoo lasts me about three thousand miles 50/50 tarmac/offroad. Not TKC80's so probably not very helpful information! :D I would guess you're going to get four or five thousand out of a rear TKC. :thumb2

I would say you can get up to 5k miles easily with legal life left in the tyre. I find the TKC totally useless though on the trails.
No real sharp edge on the side treads leads to cornering being tricky.
To me they are a road tyre that can be used on trails, not an off road tyre that can be used on the road..... iykwim.

On the Trans America Trail recently the rear Karroo my KTM 640 lasted 1,500 miles before it was completely bald, not worn out or gone off just nothing left at all:eek:

TK's on an 800GS about 50/50 tar, some hard riding. Solo with luggage, 20-30'c, 8000km they were just about shot by the end.

I'm told you can "cure" TK's to last longer by running hot, then cooling for 20 minutes, repeat 3 times and you can gain a few '000k.

By 'curing' is that not going to make them a lot harder than they already are?

Thanks for the replies. About 5000 miles should be enough. :thumb2

+1. I've used them in the past and tended to lose the front end on corners on muddy trails.

Cheers,

Ian.

Whats best on Xchallenge?

I'm about to start doing some harder laneing and maybe so rallies so what would you experienced boys recommend? not to fussed with road performance long as its legal.

Whereas the TKC on the back of my TT600 lasted the approx 3.5K miles with still something left.
Although nothing like as experienced as Timpo I found them OK on the trails not as good as Mitas but perfectly serviceable.
I guess the Yam is softer on tyres than your 650 would be.

3500 on the back of my funduro still legal but not enough left for off roading, oddly the front tyre had very uneven wear with the nobbles turning into pyramid shapes and creating a lot of road noise.as others have said they probably arnt the best off road tyre but with the wheel sizes on the funduro my options are a bit more limited, they do seem to grip well on tarmac tho.mike

I bought my 650 single with TKC's on, it had been down to Morocco and back through France, I took down to Morocco and back via Santander, 4.5k miles, and it's still being finished off on the road.

Maybe 'cos I ride like a girl ;)
