If you can afford it stop thinking and go buy it

:hide For what it's worth I have owned a ZZR1100 (reliable, rubbish finish), Triumph 1200 Trophy (reliable, fair finish, didn't like the handling), Fireblade (Reliable, good finish, great handling), F6C Valkyrie ( reliable, really rubbish finish with wheels and swinging arm replaced by Honda when a few months old) and a Varadero ( reliable, good finish, good handling but drank petrol)

The point I am trying to make, nothing is perfect.

So now the 1200GS. My first, a 54reg, suffered a bit. It had new engine management plus all the normal problems documented on this site. I was a little fed up but purchased a second to put the problems behind me. This one has been a lot better with only minor faults, wouldn't start due faulty sensor and the fuel pump controller was replaced.

Everything has always been fixed by the dealer without question, often meaning they had to pick the bike up, a 100 mile round trip.

Anyway, as I love everything else about the bike I have just got another a few weeks ago. Grey, spoked wheels, heated grips, hugger, engine bars but decided to ditch the ABS. I think the normal brakes feel better and no possibility of problems in the future. Have also purchased Sargent seats and Jesse luggage.

BMW have let the customer develop this machine which I don't think is a good thing but it is getting more reliable. Remember you always tend to hear the negative things. Hope I am right as this one will hopefully be kept for a long time.

Stop thinking, buy it and go have some fun.

Are they? Seems just the opposite to me - the 1200 issues seem to be getting fewer & fewer, and there seems to be a lot less '1200 bashing' than there used to be. :nenau
Probably because the then 1200 bashers now all own 1200's - except for the luddites:augie

how true... and I know of a guy that predicted that (his past posts should be around somewhere)... I think his nn starts with n and ends with s... but years passed and I don't remember

anyway...

You've obviously had a bad experience - did your manner and attitude help you along the way to the bad experience? I suspect they did from your name and writings.

Your statement above is tosh!! You quote Honda - well ask the Police (and me for that matter) about the ST1300.

I think my manner is balanced, reasoned, restrained and informed. I denied for so long that there was a problem because of the financial and emotional investment in the brand and model. It was a tough decision to sell. My point being that it was the right one. My issue is not how BMW supported the underdeveloped product when in warranty but the warranty terms themselves and their lack of potential support outside warranty. In terms of my manner i have never derided anyones elses opinion on this forum as 'tosh'. And ST1300 is fine. You can stand on me on that one. Some things better than GS and somethings not. But I seem to ride without omnipresent concern. Fundamentally we (the consumers) let BMW get away with this by our lack of cohesion, I know this because I work for a top-end manufacturing company and see the debate from the other side. BMW have come out of this relatively unscathed and there some in the press that regard this as a scandal and PR coup.
