Today I have mainly been working on my R1150GS.
Took the gearbox off to check the grease on the splines, barely any left. Glad I did that as I need to replace the clutch and the clutch pipe. Plate down to rivets, metal bits cracking and bad heat marks.Still 130,000kms isn't too bad. The splines in the plate are like sharp teeth but the shaft still looks servicable. What I think are the date codes on the clutch parts tie in with the age of the bike. The pipe gearbox end is badly rusted and the rubber sleeve that was covering it was full of rusty water
And I got me some of that flash Krytox grease to put on the new splines.:thumb2
Now I have to find somewhere reasonable to buy the new clutch from;). That will most likely not be here in NZ.

Good work can't beat doing your own work on a bike, plenty of places here in the UK for bits. I've always used Motorworks, really good blokes and they ship overseas no problem.

Both Motorworks and James Sherlock are VERY REASONABLE when it comes to shipping - I have used both and they certainly do NOT take the p*ss like many other companies do.

My last order from MW was quoted at 35 pounds shipping but was billed at 19!

Bargain, especially when you consider that us overseas buyers don't pay the 17% VAT.

Those fine folks at James Sherlock have posted to parcels with the clutch parts. Posting in 2 is cheaper than one larger and removing original packaging aslo makes it lighter and cheaper. hopefully late next week the parts will arrive and next weekend I will have my bike back on the road. Thanks for the encouragement and advice guys.:)

Righto my new clutch parts have arrived, one package friday and the other today. Both posted same time:confused:
So a couple of questions
1) is correct alignment of balancing marks critical, the one on the flywheel is non-existent. From what I have read on this site I think it is no
2) what is the best way to centre the clutch. Can I fit it loose and then torque clutch bolts through the starter motor space

Thanks all
Adrian

Also finished my own work, replacing 2 coil packs / stick coils (better to do both at the same time). Motorworks posted on Friday and it was here Wednesday morning - not bad from Yorkshire to HONG KONG!!

Tried replacing the left side rocker cover (for cosmetic reasons :augie ) but couldn't get the last bolt out of the BMW plastic cover thingy so ended up with a tray of oil, a rocker cover that wouldn;t come off and some swearing in front of my 7 year old son! Oh well, a job for another day ... :tears

DOH!

Cheers,

Nick
