OK,

finally after a week after picking up the GS with history, i got her out on the road.

Ignoring the clunks and rattles (that a fellow GS owner has said is normal lol) it was quite an

interesting run.

With the lowered seat, i can get one foot down easliy, which give me no end of confidence, so

slowing and balancing on the throttle / clutch is now not a problem, as i can get a dab down if needs

be.

Issues still seen .

Smell of petrol -

Still get the odd whif of petrol. Its not from the filler, but appears to be from the

two bleed pipes the run down near the starter.

I've traced these back the the large fitting on the RH side of the tank. I'm guessing there vent

hoses for the tank. Cant see or smell any other petrol fumes anywhere else.

Starting when hot ..

Started no problem today x3, but still not sure its right. when is starts when warm, the battery

symbol pops up on the display, but goes out immediately, but every now and then the check engine

symbol pops up too.

Poping on overrun

Occasionally when coming down through the box it pops and barks on the overun.

not sure if its normal or related to one of the above.

Battery

I popped the battery straight on charge when i got back ...

The optimate went straight to de sulphate and has been sitting there since...

(brand new battery btw)

I've checked the voltage 16v (de sulphate) so dropped it off charge and left it on the bench ..

It's reading 14.5V and dropping slowly ..

I'll see what it reads in the morning

(i have a feeling my optimate may be a little fubed)

I need to find someone local with a GS911 who can run the diagnostics for me.

Barking and popping on the over-run could be a sign that your secondary coils are on the way out. Mine did that a bit, which I quite liked, but pretty much disappeared when I put new coils in.

Might also be drawing Air in through the Headers.
Maybe your Nuts need tightening....

The petrol pipe issue is a recall get the bike to a dealer and find out if it has been checked . My bike was recalled for this. The reason is that the pipes are plastic and can be fractured when removing the rubber pipes the recall addresses the situation.

Pops & bangs are normal if you've not got a catalyst. Fully close throttle & popping stops.

If the petrol pipe connectors are not cracked the leak could be the seal around the tank access cover.
Battery symbol after starting is normal. It should go out after a few seconds.
Check Engine symbol is not normal. But as it goes out it's probably not too serious.
What primary coils do you have? Do they smell oh hot insulation?

What i know about Delores ;) (Think Westworld -- it has previous history ;) )

All recalls bar one, are done, That's for some stickers to be applied to the handlebars i think lol

Its got the cat fitted --- lambda probes in place ..

Tank access cover ... which one lol I found one top left - mid right & one right on top other than the one right on top, which is where the

fuel goes in, there was no sign or smell of a leak.

The only place i could smell anything was the two pipes that exit from the mid right cap thingy right at the bottom nearest the ground.

Easy, i could smell petrol,

if you can smell petrol its better to know where its coming from (leak/ splashback), before it shows you where it/ was comming from (puddle / fire :redlight )

If you want to get rid of the pops and bangs, I know, some like them, get a tube of exhaust ASSEMBLY paste from Halfords.
Doesn't matter if it has the cat or not. Just needs to be carefully assembled with the assembly paste.
It helps the pipes to slide together and when it heats up, it seals any air leaks. Easily breaks if you need to take it apart.
The last bit is why you don't use repair paste!

Luv my Pops & Bangs so I do!!!

(Oh yeah John.......got the hugger the other day, thanks a million. Once I get the little repair done, it'll be perfect)

My exhaust parts fit so well that the headers and Y joint have effectively welded themselves together but it still pops & bangs. I'd love to see it from behind at night.
