Tom Crean. RTE1 now

Fantastic, we really enjoyed that:thumb

I seem to remember talk about a run to his pub, can't remember who suggested it though:nenau:green gri

I remember that right enough. Wasn't there to be a run from the North Pole pub in Donegal to the South Pole Inn in Anascaul?

We stopped at the pub last October on the Killarney weekend Brian but unfortunately were there before opening time.

Got this book, which is highly recommended, on e-Bay at the weekend for £3. Hopefully it will arrive in the next few days and I can get stuck into it.

What a great Irishman. :bow

If you get the chance to see the one man show "Tom Crean - Antartic Explorer" by Aidan Dooley, go. Excellent show, even if you had no interest in the man.
Not sure if it's still touring, though.

One Man Show

Aidan Dooley's award-winning one-man show "Tom Crean: Antarctic Explorer"

If you ever get the chance don't miss this
spellbinding no documentary or book can live with it.

You believe you are there listening to Tom tell the tale !

Jochen and I went to see it in Dublin last year. A great show as you say Jim but unfortunately Aidan Dooley is touring a new show "O'Sullivan Beara" at the moment so feck knows when he will tour Crean again. I'll go again when he does though. :thumb2

Class show, took a one month trip to Antarctic via Ushuaia & South Georgia over 2 years ago, trip of a lifetime, brought it all back

Fancy doing something like what Charlie Byrd did

You will have to get to Ushuaia first and that will cost about 1500€

Chris Smyth, a direct descendant of Ernest Shackleton, gave a talk at Horizons in Enniskillen last year. A great guy and a real gentleman. A worthy carrier of the Shackleton adventure gene!

When ye go to Kerry be sure to visit the South Pole Inn in Annascaul, fab memorabilia there, food including dinners is first class, Crean is buried in the neighbouring burial ground and as you enter its at the bottom right corner
