broken cradle
I was reading this forum for advice on fitting a new TT rider and of course went to check that the unit did not move about too much in the cradle. In fact it moved quite a lot. On checking the cradle I found stress marks leading from one of the screw holes on the same face of the cradle as the pins. It was the torx security screw in the top left hand corner of the unit. In fact looking at the recessed screw head showed the plastic was cracked in the shoulder of the screw hole. (sorry for the long winded description, the site won't let me post photos).
I took the unit back to the retailer who offered to replace it with a cradle from another unit. When he opened the box it was broken in the same place. Only one other unit left in the shop and, yes you've guessed, it was broken too although it was worse in the there were fractures round 3 of the screws.
Now waiting for a replacement from TT. The retailer was not impressed with the concern shown by the TT service centre when he called to get replacements for the broken cradles in his stock.
The unit works great in the car by the way and if they can get the cradle problems sorted I think they would have a winner. If they don't do something soon they risk getting a brilliant GPS rubished for the want of a poorly designed cradle.
Come on TT what about a product recall and a re-designed cradle to show that your engineering skills can match your electronics wizzardry.

Have to say though, sturdy bit of kit, 'cos it worked as soon as I put it back in the mount coupled to a makeshift lanyard (now supplied by TomTom for obvious reasons). Actually bought one of Steve's straps which I will use if I am forced to use the TTR in an emergency. As for TomTom's customer service, it stinks and I will NEVER buy another product from them, and will advise everyone I can to avoid them like the plague.
