After all the problems I have heard of people having with the Rider I still went and bought one but have come up with this retaing strap to stop both the arcing of the contacts and the chance of it falling off.
So the bottom line. The answer to Rider problems - BUY GARMIN
Hi Egon
I'm Bin a new member today. I have heard about your strap and would like to know how I can obtain one, can you advise?
Many thanks
There is a difference between the mount I sent back and the new one. The new mount is marked on the base as Made in China 4K00.003.2 and shows the model as Ton Tom Rider Holder II. Whe you compare the back of the new one with an old one there are additional plastic reinforcements just below the hinge for the black clamp. It also appears to have a much thinner rubber seal showing between the front and back of the unit. Whether this will make a difference remains to be seen. Photos below of old and new mounts

Shouldn't you get your facts straight? The Garmin Zumo (For Bikes) comes complete with 2 mounts and craddles for the bike and the car.At the risk of getting flamed I'm going to defend Tomtom (to a point at least!)
Firstly though, I accept that Garmin's customer service is light years a head of Tomtom.
All the problems I have read of regarding Tomtom relate to the bike mount, or the connection to it. I had this problem too, when I went over a speed hump at low speed and the Tomtom was only saved from a denting by a one-handed catch Paul Collingwood (who?) would have been proud of.
It took Tomtom 4 disgracefully long weeks to replace the mounting with their updated mount (waiting for new stock apparently). Since then I have done about 10k miles including some off road, dropped my bike at least a dozen times and the new mount has behaved impeccably.
Why have you never heard of this mounting problem with a Garmin? Well of course they don't supply mounts with their GPS.
So if, for the sake of fairness, you compare like for like, say a Garmin + Touratech mount, with a Tomtom Rider + Touratech mount , all the listed Tomtom issues (afaik) are iradicated. All you are left with is the long list of "my Garmin broke but Garmin customer support was great and replaced it in XXX time and I couldnt recommend them more highly" posts.
Maybe I have missed the point, and if so I will stand corrected, but I can't recall a single case of a Tomtom Rider unit itself failing, and even if there were a few I had missed, they would be many less in number than the "couldnt recommend them more highly.." posts here.

True. But not because of the mounting issues. There are other reasons why others have bought Garmins instead of Tom Toms."So I'm afraid it still is the Garmin over the TomTom"
