tonight's fun in the snow....

Not long home from the cinema and getting into my town is now a serious problem....

I ended up going backwards down a hill tonight (100 yard slide), brake flat on the floor, handbrake on, hazards on, executed a 90deg pirouette into a side road (where I could escape and make it home), all because I wanted to see Sherlock Holmes at the cinema, the no hands on the wheel wave out the side window seemed to impress the distressed woman in the car behind....

The council, Edinburgh and Midlothian, seem to have given up and I think we are now officially snowbound....

I have it on good authority that Nick Griffin went to see Avatar at the pictures tonight.
Don't know if it was 3D or 2D though.

North Lanarkshire Snowplough/Gritter just passed the back window five minutes ago so they havn't given up yet

Mind you our street is still covered in frozen, icy snow so can't get bike out to the main road anyway.

We could go an get some rock salt from the big city but don't think I could be bothered with all the hassle

Perhaps the serious problem is in fact sir's ability to drive??

Hazards on, ok, probably the right call there considering you had slid for a while and were obviously utterly incapable of dealing with it, but what the fucking hell were you doing with your brake flat on the floor and your handbrake on for a 100 yard slide on ice down a hill which you obviously knew was there???????

I agree with Fanny..
All REAL drivers know that the BRAKE pedal is totally superfluous in that situation.
Release it and try to maintain some wheel rotation in the lowest possible gear is ALWAYS the best bet, may also give you a modicum of steering as well.
That goes for ABS brakes as well..
Also a few lengths of 12mm [1/2inch] rope to tie across the width of the tread and imitate tractor type tyres coupled with tickover in first will get you home quite effectively..
