Anybody know? Now that I've finally installed v8 of City Navigator, do I still need to use v6 or v7 or can I just get rid... in my Mapsource application I have them all listed, can I deleted everything except v8 and still be operational?

thanks in advance....

My understanding is that as the later versions are upgrades you need to leave them where they are.

If you ever want to re-install on a new pc, you'll need the old disks. Certainly that was the case for me putting V7 on my work laptop, it has to come off the original V7 Quest install disks then the update to V7 installed.

So don't bin them.

I upgraded from V6 to V7, then removed V6.

Works fine for me.

... but I have not tried to directly install 7. I suspect you would need to start with 6 again.

The only reason to uninstall previous versions is to save disk space. And that may be a very good reason. ;)

When you save MapSource data (routes, tracks, waypoins) on disk it's very important NOT to have map segments active. Else it may be impossible to open these files (years) later when you no longer have that old map version installed.

Instead of uninstalling a map version you can delete all the detailed maps and keep the rest. Go to the directory C:\Garmin and further down to the map version directory you want to remove. Delete all .img files with numerical names as "00147606.img".

cheers guys... I deleted 6&7 and v8 seems to be working fine.... I installed it on my laptop too and went from v6 straight to v8 and that seems to be ok too... I'll keep my fingers crossed
