with regards to the insurance, once you have informed your insurer, they will arrange for any benefits you are entitled to (courtesy bike, legalk cover etc) depending on the cicumstances and where the blame lies, the best case is that their insurer takes 100% of the blame and starts to help you out asap. in this instance you prob wont even need to pay your excess, your insurer will merely act as a go between for you and their insurer. worst case is that they blame you, or the blame is disputed. this means you'll pay your excess, your insurer will cover all costs you are covered for, and you will lose no cloaims bonus. you will also have a fault claim on your insurance record, held on the MID (motor insurers database) these dings will only be removed once the two insurers have decided /fought out, who is to blame.. if your eventually found to be at NON FAULT, you'll get everything refunded by your insurer, once they claim it from the other insurer. however, keep a record of all costs incurred including any taxi bills, costs incurred, take photos of any injuries (if possible) make sure you have drawings of the scene, a statement and everything else you could need in 6 months time, once you've forgotten everything (i learnt the hard way!!!!!) also take pics of any damage to your kit and bike...
the insurer (his or yours, depending on blame, or possibly both) will send out an assessor to look at the bike, and assess what damage there is.. you'll then be given an indication of whether the bike is a write off (off varying severity) or repairable.. if its a write off, you'll get paid out market value of the bike, and may get the chance to buy the write off back if you like....
sounds like doom and gloom, but like somebody else said, the insurer does the hard work, so dont worry bout it. after a £180,000 claim i had, you need to remember that bits of metal mean sod all, they just look nice, the important thing is you gettin on the mend, hope this helps, any questions, feel free to ask, or call me (07739982051 mike)
