Tools - what's missing?

The little joker is to attach to the plastic tool box lid, to stop it getting nicked when you ride without the rear seat attached to the bike

As stated it slides into the opening bit on the under side of the tool cover. As for the empty spot I've taken all of hte tools out of hte case so have no idea but someone will... it houses a radio and autocom on my bike!

There used to be a small screwdriver in the toolkit, but they decided someone would have their eye out with it, so it was not included on the latter models.

I believe later models didn't come with a tool kit at all........

I did try that but couldn't get them to fit in a suitable fashion (they flopped around in an un-Germanic way )

It should live in there at the socket end of the wheelbrace.

And your open ended spanner should sit over the little round bits that are formed in the base. Turn the spanner 90 degrees, then we can all sleep tonight.

Correct, that's where mine lived originally until I pulled out the tray and started to keep the tools in a roll. Much more space.
