Top 10 mods / bling ??

Evenin' all...

Get my hands on my new (to me) GS1200 next week after loads of lurking in the background.

What would the experienced tossers recommend as the top 10 additions or mods for my new beast (I'm thinking along the lines of tank bag, mudslinger / fender extender screen etc etc)?

Any advice or suggestions greatly received.

HID lights.

Although, to be honest, they are more like "Farkles" than "Bling".

Bling is useless shiny stuff.

Rear wheel crud catcher ..... Mudfling or whatever it's called. Ride in serious rain and you'll know it.

Comfier seat ......Sargent is unparalleled in my view.

Handlebar risers if you get neckaches after 100 miles.

Front mudguard ... saves the front of the engine to a degree.

Covers for your reservoir thingies if you park regularly in towns.

Cover for the awful hole in the frame. Look at it's right hand side and you'll see what I mean.

Taller screen maybe.... GSA screens work well on the GS.

A positive and healthy attitude to motorcycling and in case the GS tests your patience.

BMW Assist and a mobile phone. Just in case.

Avoid looking for too long at any GS that looks better than yours.... it's bad for your mental health.

Enjoyment ! The best farkle of all.

I don't really go in for bling - I'd rather be a bit grey and fly under the radar. So I deliberately chose not to add little bits to my bike when I first bought it. I've now got a cracked headlight and two feck off dents in my oil cooler

Chill out chap - for some, there is a lot of enjoyment in the shopping for and trying out of kit. And there some experienced riders that can point the inexperienced ones in the right direction to reduce the chance of pointless farkles

Plus 1 for Mark Hootons Crud Plate for the front of the engine. Every tme you ride there is stone being thrown up onto the front of the engine......this will end up corroding and it's the devils own job to remove and get refinished. A mudguard extension also helps, there are many to be had. Make these changes early and avoid pitting on the paintwork!

For the same reasons I recommend a "mudsling" for the rear, remove the standard shock guard and put one of these on to better protect the back end, make cleaning around the shock easier and keep the back of your left leg clean also......

Plus 1 for riding......everything else can wait.....just make sure you get the miles in before winter.

If you are really wanting to add stuff then do it in a structured way. I have a "Fuzebox" from which my electricals are fed (available from nippy Normans). These include the Garmin Zumo, Autocom, waterproof USB for charging the phone and additional auxiliary socket for heated clothing. All of these can be set as constant or switched from the panel by relocating the fuze for each.

I also like my sheepskin (for the seat). I have the adventure seat but the sheepskin is great when touring for 7 days or more when you feel the benefit and can spend an extra couple of hours a day in the saddle.....yours for only £16 including postage!

I agree, but until you know what you need YOURSELF, asking what other people found they needed seems a bit daft

To me, a crudcatcher is a pointless farkle......to others, it may be essential, I completely accept that.

Same with HIDs......you and I both know how good they are and what a difference they make to the rather crap lights, but if the OP finds he's not riding at night, they are bling.

I have a Touratwat gear lever extender......for me, with my size 13 feet clad in hard soled MX boots and using pivotpegs for off-road riding and two-up touring, I literally cannot ride the bike without the extender......to the OP though, that could easily be a bit over 200 quid's worth of pointless bling

If the OP wants advice on any particular need, I'll gladly pipe up and give my opinion and describe my experiences of any products I know and can speak of....the same way I'm commenting on the approach he's currently taking
