Top 10 mods / bling ??

One of the most useful items you can have, as has been proved more than once when on tour, especially in morocco - i've no need for an umbrella holder as have a very small fold up brolly.
I had my fair share of piss taken on the french trip when i produced my small brolly to carry around with me - but he who laughs last laughs loudest. :D

The triumph of hope over experience

The human race is supposed to be successful because we learn from our experience

How come I don't stop wanting more stuff, even though so much of the past stuff in reality made very little difference?

The last time I saw Trixie's GS I seem to recall it had half the contents of the office stationary cupboard attached to it. :D

Sorry, I'm not trying to be funny - I was not sure about "the same" but they ARE interchangeable. Mine was a 2004 GS with almost 60,000m and the friends' was a new 2010 GSA. I just wanted to see what it was like. I thought I sat higher simply because it was new and mine might have collapsed a bit....they are also different in that each year the stitching seems to alter a bit - maybe that changes the 'feel'.

Screen
Mudsling
Headlight protector
Front engine crud stopper

That's about it as far as essentials for me go - but I've got;

extenders ( to front and back of the mudguard)
camel toe
winglets
better bash guard
engine bars
yoke protectors

a few other bits and pieces.

I guess some just add/try a few bits as and when they fancy it - some things work very well and others are just there - because.

Heated grips and oversized hand guards.

And I want one of those cymarc pannier fit barbecues, now that is bling. Can the pillion use as you ride?

I thought they were just options, rather than things to add.

Heated grips are a must imo - the hand guards are a nice to have.

I can't tell the difference between my 2010 GS and my 2011 GSA?

What is the difference?

BMW change the colour of GS and GSA fuel tank side panels on an annual basis
My 2010 has silver side panels and smoke top, I believe the 2011 tank colour scheme is reversed.

Sorry i ment i cant tell the difference between the two seats.
Rob

At the 2008 facelift (R1200GS MU) the seats were changed.
The seats of models 2004-2007 made you slip forward, no good for your 'package'. The seats from 2008 onwards have a higher center. No changes were made on the DOHC seats (R1200GS TU).

AFAIK GS and GSA seats have undergone identical changes.
The only real difference can be found in the pillion seat.
On the GSA it's lower, so that the rider can slide backward, supposed to be an advantage when riding off road; as a disadvantage the pillion seat is harder (not so comfy for pillion).

Cheers,
GSband

I find the MY08 seat pushes me forward more than our MY04 or MY10 bikes.

For short rides I prefer the feel of the MY10 lower seat. It is harder and you feel more part of the bike - I haven't tried it for more than 50 miles though, so couldn't comment on all day comfort but it is certainly easier to ride fast with this seat.

Sorry to be ignant, but I have seen "MU" and "TU" before - please tell me what they signify.

Peter

I'd go for:
-Remus headers
-Remus can
-Hilltop Motorcycle Remap
-50w HIDs
-Satnav (if you don't have one)

I'm saving up for some new suspension, probably Wilburs, but only as I've got about 24k on the originals.

Not definitive, but from what I've gleaned - I think people use them to refer to Manufacturers or Technical Upgrades.

My understanding is that this relates to the model upgrades such as single to double OHC which is commonly called the Mark 3 GS.
