Top 10 mods / bling ??

Boys and girls,
Thanks for all the suggestions, I've cobbled together quite a list of suggestions now. Just need to get hold of the bike now and clock some miles up, start to work out which ones are 'for me'. :thumb

R1200GS = MY 2004-2007 = first series
R1200GS MU = Modell Überarbeitung = Model Upgrade = MY 2008-2009 = facelift.
R1200GS TU = Technische Überarbeitung = Technical Upgrade = MY 2010-2012 = DOHC engine.
Cheers,
GSband

Where do the terms originate from?

At least I now know what people are referring to.

Maybe we could use an IM reference for the initial model of the R1200GS? :)

Initial Model = IM
Model Upgrade = MU
Technical Upgrade = TU

IMMUTU

Something like that.

Are there any different model designations used by BMW that would make it easier for reference purposes? & Are the MU and TU references BMW references, or just used on a couple of forums?

GS =>MU =>TU => ???

Sorry - does this mean 2004-2007 the bike is technically identical?
I thought there were many changes? Like software, suspension etc..
I would like to know what are those changes.

Also, I understand there is a Revised FD available now?
What is revised?
Can it be retro-fitted for peace of mind?

Thanks Peter

the 1200 has a dedicated sat nav connector in the region of the headstock (location depends on year).

or

you can fit a beak skt.

or

wire direct to the battery.

cheers cookie.

i didnt notice anything like that when i fitted les wassall's HID kit, but then again i wasnt looking for anything.

what would you recommend if i wanted to add some sort of usb power supply unit ?

thanks again :jibber

i have 2 fused beak mounted sockets which i use for sat nav and accessories.

many prefer the dedicated sat nav socket, but i have had slight issues with one in the past, and now prefer the direct approach. also have no need for the power to go off when i stop. easy to disconnect as required too.

Stop.
Stop right there.

Go ride it, see what YOU need, after identifying the things that YOU don't like and could enhance (perhaps 'screen if you get buffetted, perhaps lights if you ride at night often, maybe seat if you get a numb arse after 400 miles)

Do a couple of thousand miles, in mixed conditions, and you'll KNOW what YOU need.

All you'll achieve on this thread is to get a list of expensive and in most cases, utterly pointless farkles that may enhance your bike, but also, may well spoil the ride.:blast
